I am sad this self important Christmas tradition is dying out.
This family wrote a belter in which they managed to gloss over how their two grown up children are complete layabouts Grin

I would love to post an extract but it would be so outing

I know people (mn) think they’re crap. I love to get them. Not one this year.

lastqueenofscotland · 23/12/2018 16:57

It was a poem. I think even if I posted a theme it would outing. It was so funny, it took us about 25 minutes to read a sheet of a4 as we kept laughing at it Blush

Don’t be so horrible.

I write a round Robin with photos for emailing to people I didn't get chance to send cards/letters to. I do try not to make it boasty! It is my job for this evening in fact.

Maybe one year I will do a fake boasty one just for fun.

Have you read any of the Simon Hoggart books on this? Very Funny.

I only get them from two family friends who write honestly and genuinely about their lives, their news and their plans. The ups and downs. I read them with genuine with interest - we live thousands of miles apart and I love getting their updates. I am rather jealous of people who get dreadful ones for comedy value but the ones I receive are nice (and I don’t say that about much Smile)

Kiss thank you for that!! I’ve just ordered it for my DM

My friend sends one. Two A4 pages of tiny single line type. It's the highlight of my Christmas!

cadoth · 23/12/2018 18:52

this is gonna sound strange, but what is a round robin ?

KindergartenKop · 23/12/2018 19:51

A round robin is a newsletter sent about your family to all their friends every Christmas in the Christmas card. The best tend to be brilliantly boastful and often gloss over any negative events. For example, if little Johnny got 3 Fs in his GCSEs then the paragraph would focus on his brilliance as townsman 6 in the school play.

cadoth · 23/12/2018 20:00

@KindergartenKop thanks, I'd genuinely never heard of them , and unfortunately never received one... they sound fabulous Grin

I usually prefer to write a personal note in friends' cards, tailoring it to subjects I know are of interest to them. However, we have had a couple of big family events this year, events which I would write to all my friends, so I decided as a one off, to write the dreaded round robin. It was just one sheet of a4, three paragraphs and a few pictures. Hopefully my friends won't regard it as boastful dinner party fodder.
