Putting juniper berries in gin

If you put juniper berries in a gin and tonic, are you meant to eat them or leave them in the glass? If you leave them, aren't you then also leaving some of the drink in the glass?

Trying hard to be a sophisticated knowledgeable gin drinker who talks about things like botanicals. Not going well so far.

I hate it when bars put fancy shit in gin. If it’s a good gin it shouldn’t need accoutrements. A slice of cucumber in the summer is about as far as I’d stretch. I don’t even like lemon in my g&t.

Well i ate thrm! They dont taste great tbh but sod missing out on the gin

You’re meant to leave them because juniper berries by themselves don’t taste great. You could put red pepper corns instead — it gives it a nice zing and they taste lovely after they’ve marinated in the gin for a bit.
