A transparent 'blob' about 2" square on my doorstep with a damp patch round it (looks like something was melting) but been there 2 days and finally I plucked up the courage to pick it up (with 2 layers of kitchen roll) & put in bin. Felt like a lump of jelly!! We thought maybe an incredibly long phlegm (we're at least 15 feet from the road) but my DS just suggested could be a slug nest!!! That is my worst nightmare - please tell me it couldn't be!..... could it??

Aliens?

halfwitpicker · 22/12/2018 21:32

We need a pic, obviously

Troels · 22/12/2018 21:55

Jelly fish. Does high tide reach your doorstep?

Ectoplasm? Maybe the ghost of Christmas yet to come came?

babysharkah · 22/12/2018 22:25

Slug that the postman tried on.

Or obviously an alien.

Grace212 · 22/12/2018 22:30

well if you didn't get a pic....we can only assume it's The Blob from that 50s horror film or whenever it was.

Lomondstripe · 23/12/2018 01:51

Ooooh I read once about jelly falling from the sky!

On further googling it appears this is what I was reading about - en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_jelly

Does that ring a bell?!

wannabebetter · 23/12/2018 08:28

Thanks everyone - I really should have remembered 'pic or I'd didn't happen' but am def not going thru my bin to retrieve said globule!! I'm going with early Santa deposit rather than ectoplasm (so I can sleep easy!!) at least nobody's going with the slug nest thing!! (DS is not most reliable with facts, once told me her local beach was overrun with 30 foot jellyfish Confused)

elephantoverthehill · 23/12/2018 08:35

That's what it was! An autocucumber. Well naked, without the tell tale green skin.

TonsilTits · 23/12/2018 08:42

Kids' slime? The stuff's disgusting but kids round here are still obsessed.

LadyPasserine · 23/12/2018 08:56

Could be undigested entrails a cat has sicked up.

wannabebetter · 23/12/2018 09:14

It was very regular shaped though, like a large ice cube but solid jelly & transparent - didn't squish when I picked it up....

Had it recently rained? It’s probably a water retaining gel pod from a plant or soil or something similar. Tiny when dry but designed to swell and retain water when wet.

elephantoverthehill · 23/12/2018 10:52

A Master Cheffed autocucumber then.
