What else can I serve with cheese and biscuits?

Planning to do just a cheeseboard for Christmas Day tea, but my DMIL doesn't want to eat much cheese as it gives her indigestion apparently.

So wise MNers, what other easy-to-eat option can I provide, alongside cheese, crackers and chutney?

My answer was pickled onion and pickled gherkins but not sure they would do much for the indigestion!

Sliced ham salad? Mil always used to produce either sardines on toast or boiled eggs for children.

Could you spin it out as an intercontinental mezze - so cheese, pate, antipasti, frozen grapes, hummus, baba ganoush etc...?

HauntedPencil · 21/12/2018 20:56

Ham & cured meats
Pork pie
Salad
Baguette
Pickles n that

AtleastitsnotMonday · 21/12/2018 20:56

Breadsticks, toasted pita strips, crudités and dips

MeganChips · 21/12/2018 20:56

I always do grapes, celery, pickled walnuts and cornichons. I love a cheese board!

ooh - Rachel Roddy has a delicious recipe for sweet and sour onions - it does take some advance notice but worth it! www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2016/dec/15/rachel-roddy-a-kitchen-in-rome-christmas-recipes

Hummus and baba ganoush? Both are tasty dips, good on crackers or bread, and both high fibre, so good for settling acid indigestion.

halfwitpicker · 21/12/2018 20:59

Chips?
Jacket spud and garlic bread?

BlueJay1 · 21/12/2018 21:07

Don't go OTT and give yourself a headache trying to plan another meal.
If she can't eat cheese, she can tuck in to some crackers, pickle and grapes. Maybe get a small ham selection.
Or some sausage rolls / pre-prepared cold veggie sticks.

KeepServingTheFestiveSnogs · 21/12/2018 21:07

For me it would be more cheese + alcohol, but I take the point of the thread.

Olives
bread rather than crackers with things like hummus, salsa, guacamole etc to dip/spread (although could do with crackers, bread is more filling)

SherlockHolmes · 21/12/2018 22:11

Thanks for all the suggestions, think I'll go with ham selection, crudites and sausage rolls if there are any left after Christmas Eve

Grapes, figs, walnuts, celery, cherry tomatoes, peppers, pate, crackers, port, wine and more cheese!
