For Christmas, I’m surprising my mum with a weekend break in Rome in the summer.

I’d like to make a jar with 12 cards, each containing something for us to do throughout the year with June being the big Rome surprise.

So far, I’ve come up with -

A cinema trip
Afternoon tea
An afternoon shopping

aaaand that’s it. I have eight more envelopes to fill and I’m stuck! Please help me think of nice (cheap!) things we can do together. I’d be ever so grateful.

A day at the beach (if you live near enough)?
Trip to the zoo.
Boat ride on the river
Picnic in the park

Visit a park/botanic gardens and have an ice cream

Listen to an outdoor concert

A double trip to the hairdressers? So you both go at the same time. A walk in a local beauty spot with a picnic, a baking session together, an afternoon of watching a box set of something you both like, visit to a museum, any crafts you both enjoy.

Go on a winter woodland walk, have hot soup when you get home

Take a trip on a steam train or ferry

Mani-pedi?

I second museum trips and art galleries.

Cocktails is a good idea, you could have a home mixology session.

Ahh thank you hearts. I love my mum so much, she is the most selfless person I know and she deserves the world.

We lost my brother in a car accident, it will be ten years next year and also a significant birthday of his so I want to really make the effort to spend some time together. It’s going to be a tough one for her.

Cocktails is definitely going on the list

Meal out or takeaway or cook a meal for her
Baking afternoon
Any museums or places of interest she'd like?
Pub/bar
Take her to see a friend while you clean her house
Walking tour or bus tour
Look on Groupon for local events
Cheap/fringe theatre

Aww sorry to hear about your brother BifsWif how heartbreaking. Such a lovely gift idea, she will feel spoilt and special and very loved.
