We will not be having ham for Christmas this year.....

.....as the bastard is stuck in the top drawer of the freezer and I can't get it out without defrosting the whole bloody machine.

It was all going so well . I bought a little uncooked ham joint about 2 months ago and shoved it in the top drawer. However, it was a tight fit and I had to squidge it in. Of course, physics or whatever, is laughing up its sleeve at me because once frozen it cannot be squidged out again. There is no give in a rock solid piece of pig meat.

Silver lining is that come mid summer when I get around to defrosting the freezer there will be gammon on the menu.

Might be a radical suggestion but how about buying another one?

fourbaubles · 21/12/2018 15:40

Silvery nope. I have thrown my toys out of the pram. There will be no ham this year but as its only me I don't ind really

Fair Enough but I bet you will miss your ham. Can't you hack at it with a knife and hammer Grin

I've thrown my toys out of the pram too. Just checked my supermarket delivery for tomorrow, only to discover that the free range chicken won't be delivered as it's now out of stock grrrr.

Sent a complaint to the supermarket asking if it's beyond their capability to ensure they reserve enough for the orders for this weekend that were booked on 26 November. I think the same applies to turkeys so there's going to be a lot of disappointed people this weekend if they don't check their orders before delivery.

Enjoy your Christmas Xmas Smile

Smiled as I read this ... I'm currently in the doghouse for insisting we had a tin of ham in the fridge only to discover today that we haven't.

I'm praying we can pick one up tomorrow ....

There is only me. I don't eat meat anyway but have not had the time (only just been paid) to get anything. I am away at my Brother's Saturday and Sunday. It now means I have to trudge out Christmas Eve and hope there are some veggie sausages somewhere. Morrisons has some great veggie stuff apparently but I am not going there as a bit far. However, I already known that for pud I will get an 'festive' (not really arctic roll from a local shop. I may just say 'fuck it' and go down the egg and chips route, but I have a packet of yorkie mix as I love yorkshire pud.

Can you take the shelves out of your freezer?

Just wondering whether you could remove the shelf the drawer rests on to help?

Dafspunk · 21/12/2018 19:04

Use a hairdryer to spot melt the necessary areas around the ham.

SilverySurfer · 21/12/2018 20:03

Deathraystare I've changed my order, if the organic chicken doesn't arrive I'll be joining you for egg and chips on Christmas Day Grin

fourbaubles · 24/12/2018 13:48

UPDATE thanks to Stephisaur I discovered that the top shelf does not have a sold bottom but a sliding glass one. The ham is on the hob in diet cola as I type.

God bless us everyone!
