Has anyone tried it? I really CBA to brave a bigger supermarket, but will if Lidls part is a bit meh.

I have! I like it, but since accidentally swigging a mouthful of sediment (one of the worst moments of my life) I'm completely off the good stuff and favour the cheap Xmas Grin

I like Tesco's cheap one as well to give you an idea of where my standards are!

MrsTommyBanks · 21/12/2018 14:43

Thank you. I'm going to go for it.
Sorry about your sediment experience!

I liked it last year but am ighy annoyed that I now need to go to Lidl as I definitely want it now!!!?

1980stat · 21/12/2018 15:07

We liked it. It's better than tesco and Hardy's. I was given a bottle of vintage stuff last week though and that was noticeably better than Lidl's. I'm not a connoisseur mind you, just a frequent flyer.

waxy1 · 21/12/2018 15:10

For God’s sake risk a tenner!

NKFell · 21/12/2018 15:53

Go for it OP! You won't regret it.

1980stat I had a 1955 port that really was gorgeous but no joke, the sediment experience nearly killed me. Even with the cheap stuff I'm so careful with the end of the bottle. I got PSSD (Post Sediment Stress Disorder) Xmas Grin

MrsTommyBanks · 21/12/2018 15:59

I've got it, a bargain at £6!
It wasn't the money being wasted, it was the fear of ruining my Christmas Cheese orgy Xmas Grin.

Ive never had port. What do you mix it with and eat with it?

SparkyBlue · 21/12/2018 16:14

@DoveSecret we always use it to make hot ports. It's because a Christmas favorite of mine now.

NKFell · 21/12/2018 16:14

I never mix it, I tell people I eat cheese with it, which I do but mostly on it's own every winter night watching telly!

Since this is my third post on the thread you might all realise, I bloody love port!

SparkyBlue · 21/12/2018 16:15

I meant become a Christmas Favourite.

MrsTommyBanks · 21/12/2018 16:15

I won't be partaking myself, I can't drink.
But my Nan used to have it with lemonade. When I did drink I had it on its own with cheese.

Thin it down with some brandy.

1980stat · 21/12/2018 17:06

We don't mix it. It's best drink like wine.

waxy1 · 21/12/2018 17:13

Best enjoyed in this sort of convivial setting.

MaverickSnoopy · 21/12/2018 18:08

Oh god port and cheese. I've just done 2 months dairy free. I am literally salivating at the thought. Lidl you say?!

TonTonMacoute · 21/12/2018 19:09

You have to decant it to get rid of the sediment!

As long as it was Late Bottled Vintage, I would certainly give it a try, I have had some very nice wines from Lidl.

BubonicBudgie · 21/12/2018 19:15

I bought some yesterday, I wasn't going to open it till Christmas day, but I've had a shit week so I might open it, and dig out the Stilton

DoveSecret · 21/12/2018 21:46

Do i need a bottle? I dont like red wine though. Is it like it?
