Here in the states just did my big shop and feared how bad the store would be but it was fine-can still go out this weekend or Christmas Eve if needed but I feel more relaxed now at least

JustBeingJobless · 21/12/2018 23:28

I did my normal food shop on Thursday, then had Ocado deliver my Christmas food this afternoon (feeding the 5,000 on Christmas Day... well, it feels like that!). First time shopping with them and it all arrived, as ordered, no substitutions or missing items and was very stress free!

WheelyCoteClaus · 21/12/2018 23:29

Survived a Christmas shop today....with a teenager in tow. Teenager kept counting how long we had been.

1hr and 43mins in total....older Dteen has already eaten all the crackers.

My car boot is now full of biscuits, Doritos, crisps, salsas, hot chocolate, sweets.

Eldest dteen is a walking Hoover. I've hidden the icecreams at the back of the freezer🙄

Titsywoo · 21/12/2018 23:30

I did mine yesterday - went to 5 different shops yo get all the bits I wanted Grin. Have 12 to feed on Monday as well as Xmas day itself so of course it's not just a normal shop. Just need to pick up the beef from the butchers tomorrow morning and I'm done.

WheelyCoteClaus · 21/12/2018 23:30

I've forgotten to hide the oreos😱

PippaParty · 21/12/2018 23:35

Non perishables already bought. Local farm shop for the fresh stuff on Christmas Eve. Very easy!

Lolimax · 21/12/2018 23:36

DH and I did ours in Tesco’s late afternoon today. Relatively civilised. No frozen sausage rolls, no squirty cream (I’m v classy) and I didn’t fancy any of their desserts.

AdoraBell · 21/12/2018 23:36

Quick Wheely grab the Oreos and stash them 😁 I bought some crisps last night, petrol station had Kettle chips for a quid a packet, had to make it extremely clear that they weren’t for the journey. Everyone had something to munch of so I was being unrealistic.

Fluffiest · 21/12/2018 23:39

We did our final shop today. Dragged poor two year old round three supermarkets looking for toffee vodka for a cocktail we want to try. Then we rewarded her with a good long look at the fish in pets at home.

First time hosting Christmas this year and I think we have gone overboard on the shopping. Fridge and freezer are rammed! It's like a really cold game of jenga!

user10001999 · 21/12/2018 23:43

Went to Asda tonight , went to Aldi last night . I'll top up with fresh / things I forgot Monday morning before work . I was feeling all organised but tonight got all stressed and shouted at dh . I don't know why it's 1 day the shops shut really but I always like to have plenty in.

ohtheholidays · 22/12/2018 00:59

We've done ours, the only thing we'll need to get is some fresh veg and milk.

We did ours on Wednesday at Asda,Iceland and M&S and it wasn't to bad it only took us about 90 minutes and that's enough food to last us until about the 28th.

WheelyCoteClaus · 22/12/2018 08:10

Adora I can confirm the Oreos were rescued....never moved so quick haha

MiddlingMum · 22/12/2018 09:03

I haven't really thought about it yet. Planning to ask everyone later today what they'd like to eat. Nobody gets fussed about a "proper" Christmas meal here. Three vegetarians and two vegans.

DH went shopping yesterday and says he's bought satsumas, carrots and cheese. I might go shopping tomorrow if I feel enthusiastic. Certainly not today as the weather forecast is too good to spend time in a supermarket.

vinoandbrie · 22/12/2018 09:36

Our turkey is arriving today from Booths.

I’m braving the shops today for the veg and other bits.

lucysmam · 22/12/2018 10:13

I had my shop delivered on Thursday, couple of subs but nothing major. I spent just over £100 but £13 was a bottle of booze someone gave me the money for. The rest was a mix of Christmas and normal stuff, and I don't think I'll need a shop for about three weeks (maybe only two, depending what we have/who visits).

I'll need to top up bread and fruit towards the end of next week more than likely.

My fridge and freezers still resemble a giant game of cold-jenga so I have no idea how those who spend more fit it all anywhere!

AllYeFaithful · 22/12/2018 10:18

I’m going to Tesco on Christmas Eve at 8am. Stupid me.

Didn’t get it together to do my usual online order this year and travelling tomorrow to a holiday rental, so won’t gave time until the 24th.

I’m hoping it will be ok. I’ve nipoed out to get last minute bits on Xmas Eve in previous years and the shops have always been well stocked and not too hideous. Fingers crossed!

MrsJBaptiste · 22/12/2018 11:18

Oh FGS, it's fine! Just back from Lidl and there were plenty of parking spaces, people milling round as usual and nobody charging round like people possessed as posters on here would lead you to believe!

MakeTeaNotWar · 22/12/2018 11:48

Went to Waitrose at 9am this morning. Car park was v busy but the store itself was busy but ok, didn't queue for too long at the checkout and really appreciated my free latte! I panicked a bit and went off list. We're hosting this year - us 4 & 5 in-laws with a total of 5 kids

SauvignonBlanche · 22/12/2018 12:26

Both Waitrose and Sainsbury’s were quieter than usual today. I bumped into an acquaintance who said that it was like Armageddon at Aldi so I stayed away.

cheesenpickles · 22/12/2018 12:50

Sainsbury's delivery is in an hour of non-perishables, cheese, veg etc.

Got an email this morning to say no substitutes. Woohoo!

Will pick up the sausage meat, turkey crown, gammon and pigs in blankets from the butcher on Xmas eve morning.

We're nipping to Morrison's this afternoon as I need to get dishwasher salt (rock and roll).

Booze cabinet is always very well stocked anyway (mainly because we barely drinks).

Only slight pickle is my dfil has made us a giant meat pie for our dinner tomorrow. And despite clearing and cleaning the fridge in preparation for the delivery, it's hijacked all the space. Eek!

Moominfan · 22/12/2018 13:45

Finished my shop in Aldi today, was busy but not to bad. Parking was sparse though. Morrison's yesterday people were queuing down aisles it was horrific
