Did anyone else whose child gets DLA get an extra payment?

DS had his payment on 1st December into my bank account . He gets Middle Rate Care and Lower Rate Mobility so it’s just over £300 a month

This morning I’ve had an extra £159 into my account labelled DLA and am at a loss to understand it, it’s about half his usual monthly amount.

The only possible thing I can think of is that DS was 16 yesterday. Do they make an odd extra payment around the 16th Birthday? I’ve had no communication from the DWP except to say he’d get an extra £10 as it is Xmas and we got that on the 1st December.

Am sure if I am not meant to have it they will take it back but just wondered if anyone knew or had experienced the same.

Call DLA up and ask them what's happened. They should know 😀 I'd be hesitant to do anything with that money until you know x

My dla payment was as normal. Was it because he is now needing to be on PIP

Ive had a visit from the DWP and have been made his appointee for the time being. Doing a bit of reading it seems that this is common around the 16th Birthday but settles back into the four week payment afterwards.

I’m told that I will hear within the next three months about applying for PIP for him. Am dreading that as he can appear very able but he really isn’t.
