Lovely gift...oh

Today, I was given a gift card for John Lewis. Lovely. I like JL. New pjs, nice home stuff, etc.

There's a message in the card but no amount. So I just rang the number on the card to check how much is on there before I go mad buying pjs & pants & nice stuff.

Ah. Balance is apparently £0.00. Shock Ah. Oh well. Never mind. The giver isn't really someone I can bring it up with either. I shall just smile sweetly and suck it up!!

Has anyone else had a 'Oooh, lovely...ah. Oh never mind' gift? Grin

They've just forgotten. What will you say when the giver asks you what you bought?

NancyDonahue · 20/12/2018 22:43

That's strange. I wonder if the card was activated properly? The giver might have the receipt?

Joinourclub · 20/12/2018 22:48

Oh no you really should try to say something! I’ve given somebody a voucher today and I’d be gutted if it had failed to be activated.

winteryslippers · 20/12/2018 22:55

Say something! They will be losing out on money if not!

Unless they really are a cf and just sent you a blank one lol!!!

FelixTitling · 20/12/2018 22:58

Definitely say something. This has happened to me. Luckily I had the receipt so could prove (to the shop) that there should have been money on the card. I always give the receipt with a gift card now.

kaytee87 · 20/12/2018 22:59

It must be a mistake, you'll have to check with them

stayfit · 20/12/2018 23:14

I would give the customer service a call. There was an error in one I received for my son and they sorted it.

HildaZelda · 20/12/2018 23:17

Definitely say something. I received a gift card recently that was supposed to have £60 on it and when I went to use it, like yours the balance was zero.
I emailed the company in question and they apologised and sent me a new card.

yesmelord · 20/12/2018 23:18

Certainly say something!

The person who gave it you will be loosing their moneys worth otherwise!

WanderingTrolley1 · 20/12/2018 23:20

Please tell giver.

He is unaware.

theluckiest · 21/12/2018 07:22

Hmmm, ok...might be tricky as it's a customer who very kindly gave it to me.

I might pop in and ask them to check in store - might not be activated or something.
