What are face cloths for?

I was looking at towels today and looking at various bales which have bath towels and hand towels and always have face cloths or face towels. Does anybody use these? Are you supposed to wash with them or dry your face with them?

I'm 50 and I don't know.!

Are you talking about flannels?

In which case you wash your face with them.

Dumbledoresgirl · 20/12/2018 21:54

I call them flannels and they are for washing your face.

TruckLoadOfSubtleGlitter · 20/12/2018 21:55

If it's a face towel then you would dry your face with them.

It's an alternative to drying your face with the same towel you dry your arse with.

MeetOnTheSIedge · 20/12/2018 21:55

You wash your face with them. We have loads of them, use once and wash. They are way better than cotton wool for getting make-up off.

TruckLoadOfSubtleGlitter · 20/12/2018 21:55

I personally dry my face and arse with the same towel. I have no shame.

SalmonLeBon · 20/12/2018 21:56

Multiple uses here.

Wash face
Dry hands
Wipe down shower/basin after use.

I have different ones for each purpose, before anyone gets hygiene twitchy.

IWantMyHatBack · 20/12/2018 21:56

Soak in hot water and scrub your face. Sorts out blackheads and everything, no expensive products required.
Except moisturiser ofc

NannyR · 20/12/2018 22:00

I use them in the shower, I lather it up with bar soap and use it to have a good scrub. I've got a basket of about 30 white ones and use a fresh one each day.

CrazyOldBagLady · 20/12/2018 22:01

Flannels are brilliant. I massage cleanser into my dry skin, then get a wrung out hot flannel to wipe the cleanser off. They exfoliate, but much more gently than a face scrub. For years I used to suffer from scaly dry patches on my face, and these have disappeared now.

XmasHolly · 20/12/2018 22:02

It's a sign you're ill. You draw the curtains, lay down in bed and pop a damp face cloth on your forehead.

Well, that's what DP does Hmm

CrazyOldBagLady · 20/12/2018 22:04

Agree with everyone saying use once and then wash, you don't want to rub bacteria into your face. I shudder at the memory of slimy flannels on the side of the sink at my parents house. Much more environmentally friendly than cotton wool pads I think too.

Smidge001 · 20/12/2018 22:04

Are you referring to a flannel?? (about 12-15 inches square). If so, it's for washing your face (perplexed as to what you use - sponges aren't great at getting in the funny angles on a face or into your ears Grin)

If it's bigger than that, it's probably what I'd call a hand towel, for near the basin and used to dry your hands/face. Saves you wiping your face on a towel that's been used to wipe your bum, and dries so much quicker as it's smaller - very handy as gets wet far more frequently than the big towel. Also, as it's used more often it needs washing more often so a small towel is far more efficient for that as it will fit in a normal load, and dry quickly.

I'm really quite flummoxed that you can't work out the use ConfusedGrin.

OrigamiZoo · 20/12/2018 22:04

Yes, flannels , as my mum called them, a tiny towel. I own many but they sit in the airing cupboard unused.

If you wash your face with them they have to go in the wash immediately don't they? Using them to dry your ace sounds more useful. But just one person can use them at a time so if there are four of you you'd need loads of them.

I'd have bought a bale today but the flannel issue stopped me.

I use them to dry myself after a shower because they are less faff to launder than a towel.

longwayoff · 20/12/2018 22:06

You've never washed your face?

OrigamiZoo · 20/12/2018 22:06

I don't use a hand towel to dry my face, as everybody uses the same towel and I've got lots of kids who may not wash their hands properly....I use another towel.

They are for scrubbing unidentifiable stains off children's faces. And then washing at a high temperature to prevent cross contamination!

BackforGood · 20/12/2018 22:11

Exactly TooMinty

rabbitfoodadvocate · 20/12/2018 22:12

I'm an arseface as well. Can't be dealing with extra towels to wash.

madmum5811 · 20/12/2018 22:13

My friend in digs with a washbasin in her bedroom had three she called them the three F`s. When I asked why, she said Face, fanny and feet. Still makes me smile.

Passthecake30 · 20/12/2018 22:14

I have a huge stack. Kids wash with a clean one each eve. Wash toothpaste off their faces with another each morning. I use one to freshen my arm pits and bits if I have no time for a shower. Dp uses for washing off shave gel.
We have an old nappy bucket in the bathroom where we put them when used.
How do other people do these things if not with a flannel?

TooMinty · 20/12/2018 22:16

My MIL is soft and runs them under warm water first. I just use cold water and firm scrubbing...

Babygrey7 · 20/12/2018 22:16

This thread reminds me of my gran

She always gave me two towels, one for "upstairs" and one for "downstairs"

It horrified me as a child, as I thought it meant I had to wash upstairs (in the shower) but also downstairs (in the kitchen sink?! Where anyone could walk in on you?!)

It made me feel so panicky as a child

She would also ask if I washed upstairs and downstairs, and I would lie and say yes, but no way was I going to wash myself in the kitchen sink Grin

TintinandSnowy · 20/12/2018 22:19

Put warm water and lovely soap on the flannel and give your face a nice scrub - best thing ever!

LittleKitty1985 · 20/12/2018 22:33

Hmm, this sounds like a lot of faff and washing. I just use a face scrub while I'm in the shower in the morning, & a makeup removing wipe before bed. Do you think that's bad for my skin?
