What are face cloths for?

I was looking at towels today and looking at various bales which have bath towels and hand towels and always have face cloths or face towels. Does anybody use these? Are you supposed to wash with them or dry your face with them?

I'm 50 and I don't know.!

How do you wash your face?

OrigamiZoo · 20/12/2018 22:36

I wash my face with a buff puff and dove soap but maybe I'll use one of those flannels tomorrow!

Make-up wipes trash my skin and I'm trying to use less single-use stuff so flannels are far better IMO.

Fatted · 20/12/2018 22:38

I'm also curious to know how you've gotten through your entire life without washing your face.

OrigamiZoo · 20/12/2018 22:40

@Passthecake30 . I used to dry pail all my cloth nappies! If we used flannels I need somewhere to put them till they go in the wash.

eh? I thought everyone used them. We use for face washing, exfoliating, quick dampening of hair to style, covering children's eyes during hair washing (dry)...loads of uses really. I use one for washing my face mostly. I don't like the feel of using face wipes and the fact it's another throw-away item. Flannels are so useful!

OrigamiZoo · 20/12/2018 22:43

@fatted, I do in the shower with my buff puff!

See, go into anybody's house and their bathrooms are all pristine, no signs of flannels anywhere.

How did you wash your face before those plastic puff major mould issues things came along?!?!
Flannel are excellent. I have plenty and wash with them.

MrsRubyMonday · 20/12/2018 22:47

I wet my face and rub in a cleanser with my hands, but then use a flannel to remove/gently exfoliate. I don't machine wash mine every time though, once I'm done I give it a scrub with the cleanser and then rinse well and hang to dry over my shower caddy, replace every few days. I don't see how washing soap out under running water is any different to using a machine in all honesty.

OrigamiZoo · 20/12/2018 22:47

@ohflipmamma . I used to make my own babywipes, they were fleece and terry cloths in a camomile tea and tea tree solution, I still have many, some threadbare and we use those to cover kids eyes when washing hair.

I'm really getting into the flannel idea except where to stash them after use.

Buff puff? Those plastic netting puff things? ON YOUR FACE?! Shock

DonDrapersOldFashioned · 20/12/2018 22:51

My face would fall off if I used that.

I’m a muslin user (thin squares of muslin fabric that lightly exfoliates and wipes off my oil cleanser and mascara).

FlyingUnicorn1 · 20/12/2018 22:51

Buff puff 😂 I used to wash my face with one of those too! Previous to that I always used make up remover wipes to clean my face

OrigamiZoo · 20/12/2018 22:52

@samallpapercup growing up I used my hands with soap, rinsed by splashing. I had terrible skin. I wonder now if some proper exfoliation with a flannel would have helped so much.

Honestly, in a house of 7 people, nobody used a flannel ever!

That's because you keep the clean ones in the airing cupboard before you use them. Once used they go in the damp towel basket and washed with those.

BackforGood · 20/12/2018 22:54

Er, not mine
I suspect, not all the ensuites that you probably don't go in to either.

Smidge001 · 20/12/2018 22:54

I really don't see why you need to wash flannels between each use?! If it's just been used on your face with soap, surely a rinse and squeeze under the tap with soap will mean it's perfectly clean anyway for the next day?

Mine hangs out to dry over the bath taps.

UhYeahISureHopeItDoes · 20/12/2018 22:54

I use it to wipe off product from my face. Face masks/cleanser/scrubs etc.

OrigamiZoo · 20/12/2018 22:54

buff puff

Grin

I need a damp towel basket.

I think a buff puff is a small disc of matted stuff that’s really exfoliating. Not plastic exactly, but I don’t know what it’s made of.

OrigamiZoo · 20/12/2018 22:58

On a separate note on bathroom stuff, my partner uses 2 bloody huge bath towels so we have enough damp stuff in there!

madmum5811 · 20/12/2018 22:58

Clean ones I stash rolled up like a swiss roll in a pretty box on the windowsill with my goats milk soap. After use I hang on side of bath to dry.

I have a pretty soap dish on the side of the bath, I pop one under the soap to prevent it getting soggy if you follow my drift.

DonDrapersOldFashioned · 20/12/2018 22:58

Thank goodness for that Origami ! I was picturing you scraping your face off with one of these

What are face cloths for?
OrigamiZoo · 20/12/2018 23:00

The Buff Puff took me from spotty teenage skin to smooth and clear.
Used to be in Boots all the time, now rare and quite expensive.

It gets a mention in the film Strictly Ballroom, when Fran's skin gets transformed!

Hang on.
So I use my hands, dampen my face, apply face wash and rinse by splashing water.

Am I doing it wrong? 😱
