What are face cloths for?

I was looking at towels today and looking at various bales which have bath towels and hand towels and always have face cloths or face towels. Does anybody use these? Are you supposed to wash with them or dry your face with them?

I'm 50 and I don't know.!

Those type of face cloths are good for removing face masks. I use a cotton one for removing night hot cloth cleanser

This thread has reminded me of the tale my mother often tells about my birth. Not long after I'd finally arrived, a midwife came along to give her a 'bed bath'. She grabbed my mum's flannel, lathered it up with soap and water, gave her freshly mangled nether regions a good scrub, then headed up to the top of the bed to wash her face with the same flannel ! My poor mother had to grab the midwife's arm and insist 'No, it's alright, I can wash my own face in the sink later!' She was so horrified she still tells people about it 42 years later Grin

Anyway, flannels - don't use them often myself, apart from the rare occasion I wear loads of makeup. They are very handy for wiping grubby toddler/child faces though so I get through a lot. Always washed after one use though, have memories of wet flannels on the side of the bath as a kid and not knowing which one to use... urgh.

I use one flannel twice in a day then it does in the wash. I also do washing daily so they don’t sit and fester for days before they make it into the machine.
I use them for hot cloth cleansing my face. There’s a pile of them in my bathroom cupboard along with some muslin face cloths. They are brilliant!
Dp doesn’t use flannels, he uses his hands and shower gel on his old boat Grin
Dds use them for the same reason as me.
I normally use one on ds after he’s done his teeth to mop up the remnants of his breakfast from around his chops before he goes to school.
We get through loads of them.

The buff-puff made an appearance in one of Adrian Mole's diaries too when he used his mother's one to clean the bath with.
I use a flannel every night for taking off make up. Fresh one from the airing cupboard every night, leave it to dry on the towel rail overnight then chuck it in the washing basket the following morning to go on with the next wash.

CakeNinja · 20/12/2018 23:27

Between the morning and night time use it goes on the heated towel rail so it’s always dry before I use it again!

They're for washing your face. The best ones I have are the 35p ones from John Lewis. Cheaper than poundland and better made.

Ooh I love nothing more than washing my face with a hot face cloth. I have a fresh one every day in the shower and one in the evening for taking my make up off. Can’t be doing with wipes or sponges or cotton wool circles.

I am so going flannel shopping tomorrow

Maryann1975 · 20/12/2018 23:33

It seems I’m a minger. I put a flannel in the bathroom, I use it, the kids use it and then it stays on the side of the bath until tomorrow when it gets reused in the same way. I wash it each time I put the washing machine on, so probably 4 times a week. I have really good skin, rarely get spots, so I’m guessing it isn’t too dreadful that I use my flannels like this.

BusterGonad · 20/12/2018 23:33

To people questioning how you get through life with washing your face with a flannel, well, I put cream cleanser in then wipe of with damp cotton wool. I find water in my face vary drying! I don't think that's weird at all! I also wipe my sons face with damp cotton wool and a bit of baby lotion!

MeetOnTheSIedge · 20/12/2018 23:48

Cream cleansers and baby lotion make my skin sting and cotton wool feels really scratchy on my face.

BusterGonad · 20/12/2018 23:54

I understand Meet but it baffles me when people question 'how have you not washed your face in 40 years?' I'd say the answer was rather obvious! Grin

My dog has some old flannels reserved for his use, if your dog hates having water tipped over his head a flannel makes washing his face so much easier. Actually, the same applies to children if they go through a bath-phobic phase... the difference between a mother animal cleaning her young and humans is they have to use tongues whereas we have this brilliant invention, the flannel, to do the same job. One of the things which makes me glad I'm a human.Grin
