Do you tip the paper guy?

I’m sure like much of the country we get a free weekly newspaper. It gets delivered on a Thursday by a guy who I’ve never really seen much of apart from once when he was parked across our drive when I arrived home one evening.

Anyway, last week he knocked the door and handed me the newspaper saying Merry Christmas. I wished him Merry Christmas back and wondered why he hadn’t just posted it. Then today, he did the same again, but instead of saying ‘Merry Christmas’ he said ‘no tip for me?’

I didn’t hear him properly so he repeated it again and said ‘no tips for me today then?’ and I muttered ‘uh, no sorry...’ and off he went.

Just a few hours before my dog had died so I’d actually answered the door in tears, so possibly not thinking straight, but was he not just being really cheeky?!

I do tip the postman because he always goes the extra mile, we always chat about his family etc but even he would never actually ask for a tip.

He's rude to ask! Someone gave my son a card and a selection box on his paper round today and he was thrilled but he certainly didn't expect anything. So sorry about your dog.
