Flight radar and the Gatwick airport shutdown

So watching now, no planes near Gatwick but there's what looks like little white vans driving about the airport which say Leader7, Rover1 etc.

What are these, airport security, police?

I'm watching too. I thought at first that they were the drones! But I can see how that they're little vans. Airport security I think.

Catsandbootsandbootsandcats · 20/12/2018 14:49

It's just the ground vehicles, they're always pootling around there.

Also,love your name OP.

Ah I guess you never normally notice them that much as there's so many planes.

user. All I know is the police are still hunting the drone operator but could be anywhere in a 5 mile radius. The drone keeps reappearing so no flights allowed at present.

Wow what a mess, I feel for all those people heading away for the holiday or trying to go home.

Merrychristmasyoufilthyanimals · 20/12/2018 15:58

I feel so so sad for all the passengers, its so horrible to go throught this but better safe than sorry. Im not going away on holiday until next friday (27th) from flying from MCR and this has made me feel even more petrified of flying now

NicoAndTheNiners · 20/12/2018 17:00

I'm suprised to be honest that this is the first time this sort of thing has happened. Some wacko with a drone has the capability to bring chaos to all sorts of events, major sporting events, stuff with senior politicians/royals, etc.

Why don’t they just shoot the drone down, must be more to it!

FootballFan10 · 20/12/2018 20:53

They can't shoot the drone because of misfired bullets etc... it's just not safe too

EverardDigby · 20/12/2018 21:08

I can't see any vehicles pootering around at Heathrow, Stansted or Luton though.

Catsandbootsandbootsandcats · 20/12/2018 22:48

I've definitely seen them at other airports, and there are some at Birmingham and Dublin right now. Maybe they don't all have trackers on, or whatever they use to get seen on flight radar?

EverardDigby · 21/12/2018 04:15

Just looked at Birmingham, there's one going in neat circles and two more just squiggling all over the place, weird!

CaptainMarvelDanvers · 21/12/2018 05:46

They probably don’t want to shoot the drone because it limits them on catching the people doing this. The drones have to go back for battery changes, it wouldn’t surprise me if they are trying to search for where the drones are going back to.

If it get’s shot down then the people doing this can just do it again another day.
