What are your films of 2018?

I have a Cinema Pass, so I think I go more than the average person and that it has become prohibitively expensive to many

With that in mind it doesn't matter whether you saw it in the cinema or whether it was new out this year just what are the best films that you saw for the first time this year

For me it's been a funny year I haven't been able to see as many none mainstream movies as I normally would.

So the films I've enjoyed most are surprising to me :

Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri
Avengers : Infinity War
A Star Is Born
Blackkklansman
Bohemian Rhapsody

and special notice to

Mamma Mia 2 Blush

Which I accept was crap but absolutely loved Grin

(HQ can you please leave this in Chat not films for a while because Chat gets more traffic )

@gaggiagirl me and my dd are living a sad life of constantly checking the predictions of him winning/being nominated. I believe he and Bradley Cooper are the front runners atm.

I also loved call me by your name and ladybird!

PawneeParksDept · 20/12/2018 19:22

Rami Malek was Wonderful in Bo Rhap

Aspects of the film itself, particularly the rushed nature of the end not so much

I saw A Star Is Born pre hype and GENUINELY I had to go and stare out a window in the cinema corridor and sort myself out for a minute or two afterwards

Rami HAS been nominated for a Golden Globe and is a dead cert for an Oscar nom.

Whether he'll win is less certain

Jurrasic world fallen kingdom & mamma mia here we go again.

gaggiagirl · 20/12/2018 19:35

PawneeParksDept who is your cinema pass with? How does it work out price wise?
I barely ever used to go to the cinema as it was so expensive. We got a new vue locally that is £4.99 any time and we get to use 241 Wednesdays!!!!! I'll probably get an annual pass next year.

PawneeParksDept · 20/12/2018 19:42

It depends @gaggiagirl whether you are inside or outside London but I've got Odeon Limitless

To go ONCE to see a new release at our Odeon now it's £12

I go as many times as I want to whatever film I want for £18 (17.99) I'm outside London, I think it's 22 inside

Technically you could spend the day there and they couldn't stop you

Excludes NT Live, 3D, IMAX,

Doesn't exclude Silver Screen or Kids

I read recently that the refurbed Odeon in London has £40 seats.

I mean REALLY, fuck off.

There needs to be some sort of revolt about pricing!

Wonder. We all loved it, whole fam. And converted grandparents.

gaggiagirl · 20/12/2018 21:01

It's £12 for one seat at our nearest big odeon too. Really it's extortionate for a family of 4 to see the latest films.
I bet you make excellent use of that cinema pass.
I try to go every week. I also. Buy myself vue gift cards when they have 20% off at tesco. Knocks the price down a bit.

PawneeParksDept · 20/12/2018 21:37

I did more so when I first got it. I moved this year and though there's still an Odeon it's not as good as my old city one less wide variety of films and awkward show times that don't suit.

My move hasn't worked out on several levels, so when I move again in 2019, big Odeon is on the tick list for requirements

I don't go that often anymore, so haven't seen many this year. But loved Greatest Showman.

ShowMeTheElf · 22/12/2018 09:38

Not at the cinema but released on Netflix last night: Birdbox.
If you enjoyed A Quiet Place this has a similar feel.
I had to keep leaving the room it was so tense.

Largepiecesofcrookedwood · 22/12/2018 10:34

Bohemian Rhapsody without a doubt. Only went to see it as DH is a fan, am still listening to the soundtrack now!

AnnieRich · 22/12/2018 11:16

Leave No Trace
Widows
Ladybird
Three Billboards
I loved them all in different ways.

ScreamingValenta · 22/12/2018 11:18

They Shall Not Grow Old - it was marvellous. We've got the DVD to re-watch over Christmas.

Dowser · 22/12/2018 13:12

A star is born
There’s another...when I remember it

Dowser · 22/12/2018 13:17

Mine isn’t in top 123 but I loved it.

Dowser · 22/12/2018 13:21

The spy who dumped it

Second after a star is born

Luckily I’d written about it in mumsnet films

Perihelion · 22/12/2018 13:28

I Tonya.

So funny, sad and brutal with amazing acting.
