I'm fucking dreading it. Only one day, but still...
Apparently they don't mean "my sort of immigrant" so that is ok then.
Pass the gin...

Bowchicawowow · 19/12/2018 17:28

What ‘sort’ of immigrant are you? I am guessing you are white?

TooDamnSarky · 19/12/2018 17:29

Yes white. And moved young enough to sound naice.

Bowchicawowow · 19/12/2018 17:32

So you look and sound like them so you are OK. That’s really vile.

GloGirl · 19/12/2018 17:36

My mum's an immigrant and I still voted for Brexit. I think you are seeking advice on how to sit with racists for Christmas and you have my deep sympathy Flowers

As for how best to get through - I find playing Bingo helps, particularly if you have someone at the table to play it with. You write down all the vile buzz words and passive aggressive comments and have a drink whenever you get to mentally cross one off.

Nenic · 19/12/2018 17:37

Ffs

KennDodd · 19/12/2018 17:42

I'm not an immigrant but will have to spend five days hosting my vile racist mother, I feel for you.

On a practical note, have you sorted out your right to stay in the UK yet? Please do that if (if you want to stay) I fear hatred of immigrants is only going to get worse after Brexit.

SilverySurfer · 19/12/2018 17:59

If the people with whom you are planning to spend Christmas are known to be racist, why did you agree to spend Christmas with them? If you assume they are racist because they voted Leave then you are being totally ridiculous.

I voted Leave and would never socialize with racists.

The settled status scheme doesn't open until Brexit day.

madcatladyforever · 19/12/2018 18:05

What utter garbage I'm an immigrant as is my entire family half of whom are black and we are all brexiteers.
So now we are all rascists then? Get a life, all kinds of people are Brexiteers white, black, asian and whatever. There are lots of reasons for voting the way we did.
I'm sick to death of snowflakes who know nothing about anyone going on about rascisim and xenophobia.

KennDodd · 19/12/2018 18:06

My mum voter Leave BECAUSE she is racist, no other reason. I'd love to cut her out of my life but she has no other children (lives 200 miles away) and has threatened suicide before when I was a teenager which she said at the time was all because of me. I don't want her death on my conscience, (she does enough to guilt trip me already) if she decides to go down that path again.

Kezzie200 · 19/12/2018 18:06

I feel for you. Its goingto be bad enough being remainers having to spend time with my leaver parents.

It will have to be a topic not up for discussion, I think.

Bowchicawowow · 19/12/2018 18:19

I don't believe for one minute that all Brexiteers are rascist but the people the OP is talking about clearly are.

KennDodd · 19/12/2018 18:24

@madcatladyforever

And I'm sick to death worrying about whether I'll have a job or not next March because of people like you voting Leave. If you don't think racism was a factor in the Leave vote I suggest you take yourself over to Leave EU facebook pages, follow them for a bit, and have a look at the racism yourself. Even after the Grenfell fire loads of posts saying how these people shouldn't be here in the first place, getting hundreds of likes with the odd dissenting voice. You are on the same side as Tommy Robinson, have a little think about that.

TooDamnSarky · 19/12/2018 18:42

Blimey. I was only after a bit of support.
FWIW all the brexiteers that I know would vehemently argue that they are not racist. But the way they talk about immigrants proves this to be a delusion. (By Brexiteer I mean people who actively campaigned for brexit, not everyone who voted leave)
As an immigrant who 'passes' as English I get really interesting insights from people who often forget (or don't realise) that I'm foreign born.

Bowchicawowow · 19/12/2018 18:44

Racism may have been a factor for some people KennDodd but that wasn’t the reason why many people voted leave. It’s terrible that you may lose your job because of Brexit but you have to appreciate that many areas that voted Leave have been neglected by government after government for decades and the people living in those areas believe they had nothing to lose by voting for a change.

ForalltheSaints · 19/12/2018 18:47

Does it have to be the whole day?

AndhowcouldIeverrefuse · 19/12/2018 18:51

Yes I will spend some days over the Christmas period with a couple of ardent leavers who happen to be openly racist. They think it's all hilarious Hmm

Bowchicawowow · 19/12/2018 18:52

Why would anyone spend Christmas with racists Confused

Augusta2012 · 19/12/2018 19:47

I’m a brexiteer and I have a forrin husband who also is.

One of the reasons I support Brexit is because I believe people from the EU shouldn’t have preferential rights to live and work here over people from our former colonies who contributed massively to their wealth of our nation and fought alongside us in WW2. Not sure how that makes me a racist.

BirthdayCakes · 19/12/2018 19:56

I'm an immigrant who'll be spending Boxing Day with Brexiteers - doesn't bother me in the slightest!! I do understand their reasons for voting the way they did, even if I disagree.

It's not always about 'hating immigrants' - certainly not in my in laws case - and this kind of view makes remainers sound as ignorant as they believe brexiteers to be..

A little bit more understanding at this time of year would be great!

GrabEmByThePatriarchy · 19/12/2018 20:13

Suck it up, snowflake.

Takeittotheboss · 19/12/2018 20:48

Augusta2012.
People from Commonwealth countries not having the same rights to settle/come here, as Europeans is an internal UK government decision, not anything to do with the EU. You should have been campaigning for a change in UK immigration laws on their behalf, if you felt the situation was unfair.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 19/12/2018 20:52

Hmm most of the uk population we immigrants.

Think you are stirring op

WheelyCoteClaus · 19/12/2018 21:31

Eh?
Don't get it. Is it thread about brexiteers and those that voted opposite

Or racism?

Either way this feels like stirring
