Breastfeeding - do you always need a sleep bra?

Just wondering if it's always a necessity when breast feeding. Does everyone get leakage?
I'm due my first baby very soon and hoping to breast feed so trying to get prepared!

With DD2 I leaked like a big leaky thing so I got what Tinyteatime has linked to and - I have literally just remembered this - stuffed newborn nappies over my boobs!!!!! I used to snip off the rustly bits and they would stay in place quite well, it was because I leaked so much even with pads I'd wake up with a soaked duvet and thought sod it, I'll use a nappy and see if that works and it did! Haha! I'd forgotten that. Happy - if slightly sodden - days :)

Also came on to reccomend the h&m feeding vests for sleeping, much comfier than a bra. I carried on wearing them as a pyjama top long after I stopped feeding too so no wasted money Smile

I never wore one - small boobs and no leakage.

A PJ top that opened up easily with one hand was crucial though!

I had slight leakage but the main reason for wearing a nursing bra was for comfort, as my boobs were huge and I hated them flopping about.

One of the very few times I didn't wear one, I ended up inadvertently sleeping on my front. There are still two boob shaped stains on my mattress.

It never even occurred to me to wear a bra in bed! A little leaky first time out but only enough to make me wet, not the bed. Nothing at all second time, apart from first 2 weeks

I also leaked loads and needed them initially

I now co sleep and need a bra so he doesn't grope my boobs all night Hmm

I needed something to hold nursing pads on no1 but not one no2. I would hold off, use a vest top to tide you over if you do need something

Ahh good luck with the next few weeks. You will only truly get the answer to this question when your boobs tell you. My own experience was that I had no idea how huge engorged boobs can be (think H cup. And I’m a size 6. I looked like Jordan.) and I leaked. I leaked when I slept, I leaked when I walked, I leaked when other people’s babies who I didn’t even know cried. DS must have been loving the easy feeding, he barely had to open his mouth before my boobs would obligingly fountain some milk in for him (slight exaggeration). I needed a night bra. Some people don’t leak at all, some people don’t get engorged, I hope you are one of those! X
