A “treat” dinner.....

If you were going to make a special treat meal that could be eaten easily from trays in front of Masterchef for two people who are running out of steam after too many weeks of working too hard, what would you make? They are omnivores and I don’t want to spend ages in the kitchen, but I do want a “from scratch” meal.

Steak, chips, pepper sauce, mushrooms and onion rings.

Do you do fish? Found a Scandinavian recipe on tinternet for fish with strawberries, news to me, but honestly damn nice. Only takes minutes, and a bit of a talking point. I agree, odd!

Sausage egg and chips.
My favourite.

Depends on your concept of treat.

I've recently started buying those packets for making curry that have the dried spices, marinade, and some sort of sauce to complete. Much better than out of the jar, and even the local takeaway. It ain't hard to do either.

I'd make stir fried chicken or steak with noodles...served with shop bought prawn crackers dipped in sweet chilli sauce.

Pan fried venison www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/4811/panfried-venison-with-blackberry-sauce
I know you said they like their metal but you should also consider this truffle macaroni cheese. This is my favourite recipe www.goodhousekeeping.com/uk/food/recipes/a549828/luxury-truffle-mac-and-cheese/ but it serves 6, so use this recipe instead if you don't want to do the maths! www.gousto.co.uk/cookbook/vegetarian-recipes/easy-truffle-mac-n-cheese

I'd make a lovely curry with enough for freezer leftovers so they can have another night off later on.

Thank you- good ideas! Particularly the fish and strawberries- i’m definitely going to try that! I’ve decided on salmon in foil parcels with lots of vegetables and white wine, and spinach and mash. And I’ve made an apple pie. I think i’m going to be popular!

Ready made Tesco lasagne baked in the oven with garlic bread
Or spaghetti carbonara

Oh sorry my first thing wasn’t from scratch at all! Oops. Just my current fave Blush

SweetFry · 19/12/2018 19:55

Steak, chips & a chimichurri sauce, maybe some mushrooms and fried onion if I was feeling energetic!

Athena51 · 19/12/2018 20:47

Steak, baked potato with sour cream and salad or ham (proper thick gammon ham), egg and chips, carbonara. Pan fried lemon sole with asparagus, hollandaise sauce and crusty bread.

I'm making myself hungry Xmas Smile
