What foods do you dislike that most people love?

I love food, but people who don't know me well sometimes think I am picky because I don't like...
Pasta. Of any kind. No noodles, spaghetti, or anything. It's the texture I'm sensitive to, it just makes me naucious.
Also not nearly as bad but I dislike lettuce. Absolutely love spinach though.

NutElla5x · 20/12/2018 02:45

Marzipan and icing.Way to ruin a nice sponge.

bumblingbovine49 · 20/12/2018 02:56

There is.almost nothing I have ever tried/ or smelt that I really CAN'T eat, in that I gag/ it makes me vomit etc - except oysters (not sure those are in the category of ' food others mostly like' though')

However foods that are generally liked by a lot of people that I really avoid eating unless to be mega polite or if absolutely starving and nothing else is on offer include:

Mashed potato (unless it is more like crushed bolied potatoes - but smooth creamy mash yuk yuk yuk)

Soup of most type uness it is a clear broth type with veg/ noodles or the other extreme of a 'soup' that is more of a stew or casserole with chunks of meat/ veg/ pasta/ rice in. Thick blended gloopy ones ( i.e. most of them ) I can't stand.

Gravy in most forms unless it is a thin clear type of gravy but even then only in very small quantities and only on the meat never the potatoes or veg. Many a roast dinner has been ruined for.me by being covered in yukky brown gloop

I think I see a theme Grin

Also not keen on
Banana flavoured stuff ( fresh or in homemade cakes it is fine though)
Strawberries. Fresh or flavoured
Lemon flavoured things ( or anything sour based like vinegar etc)

Seniorschoolmum · 20/12/2018 02:57

Things with too much chilli in. Hot curries. Yuk. They wreck your taste buds so you can't taste all the subtleties in other food.

Any crisps apart from ready salted.
Oysters
Coconut (a texture thing - I like the flavour from creamed coconut)

HarrySnotter · 20/12/2018 07:58

Salad cream.

Literally the worst tasting thing in the world.

GaryBaldbiscuit · 20/12/2018 08:20

Kettle crisps
do not like the oiliness or the flavour,

longwayoff · 20/12/2018 08:21

Avocado. Peanut butter. Bananas. Quinoa. Pulses. Bread. On and on and on . . . .

quirkychick · 20/12/2018 08:27

bumblingbovine are you my dd? Grin

As said before, I'm not that fussy, I eat most veg but really don't like raw onions (unless in an Indian type salad with lemon juice or pickled) or parsnips. I would probably tolerate parsnips if cooked up in a stew or soup, as they would mostly taste not that strong, but roast parsnips are horrible, parading as roast potatoes to catch you out.

longwayoff · 20/12/2018 08:29

Bacon? People who hate bacon? What's going on? I suspect you may be some of David Icke's lizard people.

ApplesinmyPocket · 20/12/2018 08:32

"Worst thing EVER in my book - GARLIC!!! How the hell anyone thinks the vile stuff tastes good is beyond me. Plus the stench of people after eating anything with garlic in it!"

Rafflesway I had to look at the date of this topic as I was so sure that must be MY post! I have NO IDEA why other people love it so much?! Am always seeing posts like 'mmmm garlic' 'ohh there can never be too much garlic for me!' 'the recipe says two cloves of garlic - I use six! wink wink' and lots of approving nods as everyone bonds over unspoken agreement that garlic is irresistible to everyone, no matter what their other tastes - bewildering, as for me the stuff makes food smell and taste like something which shouldn't be eaten. Confused

I also have more mainstream (going by this thread) dislikes - goats' cheese (smells and tastes goaty) lettuce (watery and tasteless) and (like OP) I'm not keen on pasta of any kind.

But iIt's garlic that causes me the most sadness as it ruins so many otherwise lovely dishes and because I feel like a stranger in a strange land, left out of the whole human race's Garlic Fan Club!

Dontsayyouloveme · 20/12/2018 08:38

I’ll use a rating scale:

Custard & milky puddings 🤮🤮🤮
Jam and marmalade 🤮🤮🤮🤮
Pork 🤮🤮

NaturalBornWoman · 20/12/2018 08:39

Tomato ketchup. I cannot stand the sight or smell of it at the table either.
Beetroot makes me heave and coriander is horrible and overpowers everything.

BadMoodBoard · 20/12/2018 08:45

curry

Sakura7 · 20/12/2018 09:10

Cucumber - horrible overpowering taste and smell. Even if it's taken out of a salad I can taste that it was there.

Onions - I think it's the texture more than the taste. Raw onions make me want to heave, and I'm not a fan of slimy cooked onions either. Won't touch them unless they're chopped up really finely and well cooked in a spag bol or something. Not liking onions is hard in this world as it seems like they're in nearly everything.

Lemon and all lemon flavoured things - just horribly bitter.

Of course I love all the bad stuff like cake, chocolate, etc.

GrumpyOldMare · 20/12/2018 09:25

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 20/12/2018 09:31

I forgot peanuts and peanut butter.
Funny how people's taste buds differ!

Magissa · 20/12/2018 09:47

After a couple of years of gastric /digestion related problems and following another horrible bout in February it was suggested I avoid caffeine, alcohol and acidic foods so after research I gave up Tea, Coffee, Alcohol and Chocolate. Also bread, onions, tomatoes, soft drinks. It has made such a positive difference to my health but so difficult socially at times.

AlexaAmbidextra · 20/12/2018 11:30

Smoked salmon. The slippery texture makes me feel sick. 🤮

Kerning · 20/12/2018 11:34

Mushrooms

shiveringtimber · 20/12/2018 11:35

I'm allergic to peanuts (anaphylaxis) and so sensitized after all these years that even a fragment of a peanut would kill me. But I don't know what peanuts taste like! Peanut butter looks interesting. I'm always asking people to describe the taste.

BirthdayKake · 20/12/2018 11:37

Shortbread

Strawberries

Yogurt

canibehereifimnotamum · 20/12/2018 19:13

I'm the least fussy person but I HATE bacon. No pigs in blankets or bacon sandwiches for me. I do like bacon flavoured things though- bacon croutons❤️
