Failed my driving test today

Messed up on one of the roundabouts and swung out too wide so went over my lane marking - got a serious fault for that. I’ve booked another test for the end of January so fingers crossed for next time. I’m planning some more lessons to brush up my roundabout skills. My test route had 14 roundabouts and I got on perfectly fine at the other 13 but I know on that particular one I was stressing about finding a gap as it’s a busy roundabout (even busier than normal today With it being the week before christmas and it’s near a busy shopping centre) so I’d been waiting a while to go. It was also a steep hill start and raining heavily so I think I just was overwhelmed and took it too wide. I was so focused on not rolling back and getting the gap I just totally messed up. I knew as soon as I done it I’d Failed the test so I did relax a bit and sailed through the rest with only a few other minors for little things.

Anyway I just wanted to come on to let it all out and maybe hear some encouraging stories of people who passed after totally messing up thier first test. I know I will get there in the end, I’m just a bit disappointed in myself as I really wanted to pass before Christmas as it would make life so much easier.

It took me 5 goes. Now I'm on meds so can't drive anyway. My response time is about 3 minutes. I am however adapt at operating the sat nav. Paying at petrol stations. Keeping the child in the back entertained. Pointing out road hazards to the driver ( not always appreciated)

It’s a shame you can’t drive anymore Froglet. At least you still get to use some of you skills helping the driver spot hazards Grin.

I’m hoping to pass next time. DH doesn’t drive either so at the moment we are both using public transport and paying for a car that’s just sitting there waiting on me passing my test so I can drive it. I think I will need to take next week off from lessons (due to Christmas and childcare availability that week) but hopefully be back at it the following week and get practice in before my next test. I could honestly kick myself for making such a stupid mistake!

To be fair I only passed in the end because we went down a road and a car boot was on. It was 1 hour of clutch control and back to the test centre. A lot is about conditions on the day, pedestrians doing lemming movements and other drivers acting like complete knobs

I'm sure you will pass next time. It sounds like you are pretty confident and know what you are doing. Like you said it was raining hard and it's so busy at the moment, that would have me super nervous! It took me 4 goes to pass. It does make my life a lot easier and I'm so glad I persevered.

Oh, love. It's such a blow. But you will get back up and pass. First one I wasn't ready. Second one went brilliantly until I got to a notoriously mad junction and hesitated. Third one I passed without a problem.
You will too.

I passed on my third attempt. First time I was just too nervous, second time it wasn’t a roundabout but a similar scenario. Awkward place lots going on and I just made a silly mistake. That one was just before Christmas too. Third was the day the test centre opened 3 weeks later after the new year, howling gale and horizontal rain. I hadn’t driven since my last failed test. I wasn’t that nervous and just went and did it I actually hugged the examiner when he told me I’d passed.

Well, all the best drivers pass 3rd time Wink but best of luck for your next, I'm sure you'll do great!

VimFuego101 · 19/12/2018 10:40

All the good drivers I know took a couple of goes at passing. It took me 4 or 5 goes. Good luck for next time.
