Help! Need present for a 9 yr old in a hurry!

Just heard we have a 9yo neice we haven't seen for years joining us for Christmas. Which is lovely, but I now need to get her 2 presents (one from me, one from DM).

My head is full of cold and I'm overwhelmed by the choice! I haven't seen her since she was 2, I have no idea what she likes!

What do your 9 year olds like?

Budget about £15 each present.

Oh, I should have said it needs to be something I can get quickly, we're away up to my mum's on Saturday.

I've got prime. And I thought of maybe Argos as they do same day click and collect

Squishies and slime seem to be popular with all the 9 years I know.

CIT80 · 19/12/2018 21:21

Anything that has a unicorn on it should pretty much cover it ! Or a craft set, slime making kit

Sugarhunnyicedtea · 19/12/2018 21:22

Slime and unicorns

Believeitornot · 19/12/2018 21:23

Slime, LOL surprise dolls, any art and craft sets, sparkly hair clips....

wakemewhenitsallover · 19/12/2018 21:23

Ha! Her dad's a bit of a clean freak, it's almost tempting to give her slime to see his face Grin

(Must suppress this idea, will do nothing for family harmony!)

Any fancy stationery. Anything unicorn related is often popular/ Fancy key rings/ slime.

BikeRunSki · 19/12/2018 21:24

Lego (maybe Lego Friends, but 7 yo DD is not impressed by girl specific Lego).
Latest David Walliams book - The Ice Monster

Stationery - lots on Amazon, not just Smiggle!

Lava lamp

wakemewhenitsallover · 19/12/2018 21:24

Oh, OK, my 6yo likes all those things. They haven't grown out of this tat that kind of stuff by 9 then?

Sounds like I should maybe let my 6yo choose something then...

Lol -just posted with seeing previous replies - think we’re all on the same ideas

wakemewhenitsallover · 19/12/2018 21:25

Lava lamp, that's a great idea!

My friends all had those fibre lights, what on earth were they called? I really wanted one of them when I was little, anyway.

DD just turned 9. Things which went down well for her birthday or which she's asked for for Christmas and in your budget are:

  • Guinness Book of Records
  • Stories for Rebel Girls 2
  • Su doku book
  • Netball
  • Goalie gloves
  • Lego
  • Qwirkle (game. Very good. Not many people seem to have it)
  • limbo hop
WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 19/12/2018 21:27

Bath bombs (some good sets on amazon that are lush like)
Card games - 'sleeping queens'
Book token attached to a big selection box
Crystal mining sets
Jewellery making sets

reallyanotherone · 19/12/2018 21:29

My 9yo hates unicorns and sparkly shit Grin

She wants a lava lamp, cars, anything harry potter, comfy pyjamas, big fluffy blanket for watching tv.

Pens and stationary always go down well.

SellFridges · 19/12/2018 21:30

My present of choice for birthday parties at the mo (8 year olds so similar) is origami fairy lights.

Micah · 19/12/2018 21:31

Light strings/fairy lights as well. Paperchase have some nice ones 30% off.

Best present mine got last year was a remote control spider!

Wineandchoccy · 19/12/2018 21:31

Jewellery, craft sets, light up message board for her room, fairy lights for bedroom

HELENSCRESCENT · 19/12/2018 21:35

My 9 year old would like a light box, bath bomb kit, secret diary, lip balms, hair crimpers, anything creative or arty, a pomsie, a feisty pet, books, now 101

Redtartanshoes · 19/12/2018 21:38

Monopoly cheaters is good for that age. Infinity light? Headphones? I got ds skull candy wireless ones. £25 so would have to be combined present?

BikeRunSki · 19/12/2018 21:39

My friends all had those fibre lights, what on earth were they called? I really wanted one of them when I was little, anyway.

DD(7) has something which is like a little Lavs lamp with fibre bits on top. It’s from Smiggle!

ImWorriedAboutThis · 19/12/2018 21:47

I've just got my 9yr old the 'make your own glitter lamp' from Argos. It's under £15 and delivered next day.
She also loves anything brushed sequins - tops, cushions, ty flippables etc
Lol dolls, David Williams books also go down well.
