Nits!

Dc is 5 and in reception. Never had nits before so not sure what to do? Is anyone happy to share tips and experiences?

Etiquette - will I forever be known as the mum of the child with nits if I post on the reception WhatsApp? Please don’t judge me for asking. Partner is a teacher at a different school and has said people will think we are dirty... do people still think this way? I want to be responsible and the nits must have come from somewhere!!

Or should I let teacher know and letter will be sent out?

Treatment - we’ve used the comb and Hedrin once this evening. Am planning on doing us all again at the weekend and thinking it’s the holidays so we should be able to eradicate them.

Any tips? I feel embarrassed as I was blaming the itching on the new cradle cap shampoo I was using for DC (as they still get it). It was only as we were getting a prescription for the cradle cap (because if the itching) that I thought best to check for nits just in case...

We had nits recently (well DD had them Dh and i just scratched in sympathy). Can recommend hedrin once as we all did use it and seemed very good at killing the buggers. Also good was a metal nit comb from amazon far better than plastic ones I'd been using (& failed to find nits previously with).

I told DD's teacher and the nit letter came out at school (& her best friends mum too).

Don't be ashamed at all, unless you are hatching your own at home your DC has caught the head lice from another child so likely will not be the only one at school!

Let the school know and they usually send out a general "case of nits in Reception...please check your child" letter. Hedrin worked for us, just make sure you keep checking/combing for about the next week and you'll be grand.

She's got to have got them from somewhere, it's normal to get them and it's not like you're not dealing with it!
My 3year old came home from nursery with them on Friday, her older sisters didn't have any so they had to have come from nursery. I sent a message to her friends parents to check their kids hair, better to tell them than let an infestation take hold over the weekend. Monday I told the teacher and she arranged for a text to be sent to everyone. She was already doing that though as she had found them in her own hair over the weekend
