Just wondered really if people get bonuses at christmas time? We haven’t had them for a few years now as things were a bit tight but am hoping seeing as we have had a better year we may!

I got £175, DH used to get one in his old job but not his current one.

GissASquizz · 18/12/2018 20:35

Thirty quid and an all expenses paid Christmas do. DH gets a hamper, paid Christmas shut down and 10% of salary.

SushiMonster · 18/12/2018 20:41

@ICouldBeSomebodyYouKnow there is nothing good getting 40% remuneration as bonus.

Base plus bonus = market level of comp. It isn’t a ‘nice to have Christmas extra’ it’s a core part of your remuneration in FS.

It’s possible for your bonus to be cut or not paid at all in a downturn.

Your pension contributions are on base only so you get fucked over on that.

You don’t get all of your bonus taken into account for mortgage lending (obvs as it isn’t guaranteed).

Cash flow management over the year is harder as you have one big injection rather than 12 equal instalments.

It’s good for the firm to manage costs, it isn’t good for employees.

We used to get £1000 which was brilliant but somebody in the company complained it wasn't enough so they stopped it for all

Unobtainable · 18/12/2018 20:52

We used to get £5,000 but this year its a measly £500. Times are tough.

LadyPasserine · 18/12/2018 20:54

I used to get about £8k to £10k at Christmas and a higher sum in July. Now I have moved I get no money bonus but do not work much in December or January. Priceless.

scarylea · 18/12/2018 20:57

Wow, the bonuses really vary don’t they! LadyPasserine - do you mind me asking what industry you are in?

flamingofridays · 18/12/2018 21:00

Nope. This thread makes me think i need a new job!

Shirleyphallus · 18/12/2018 21:01

SushiMonster that’s not all entirely true. I can borrow against my bonus for a mortgage because I’ve consistently received it for 3 years

Bastardingcough · 18/12/2018 21:03

I get bugger all, but senior management 'gave' me £900 to share between the 10 staff on my team.

CakeNinja · 18/12/2018 21:05

Ha! Today I got a Christmas card from my boss and that’s more than we’ve had in years Grin

MsVestibule · 18/12/2018 21:10

I work for the NHS. We got a very basic (but still nice) Christmas lunch which I had to queue 15 minutes for. The pudding was literally 2" square.

AmIthatbloodycold · 18/12/2018 21:17

I work in local government. We get nothing. Absolutely nothing

maddiemookins16mum · 18/12/2018 21:18

We’ll get a January bonus (amount depends on annual review results). It ranges from £500 to £1K, paid in January wages.

Squ1ggle · 18/12/2018 21:53

I work in higher education and no bonuses here. We used to get £10 towards a team Christmas do but don't even get that anymore. But we do close down for Christmas which is worth a lot to me

DrMadelineMaxwell · 18/12/2018 23:56

Teacher here, so obv no bonus here. Apart from the guaranteed 2 weeks off and the cards and presents that the children and parents are kind enough to give me each year and in July.

MutedUser · 19/12/2018 00:00

Zilch

MyPoodleisWorthTenofYou · 19/12/2018 00:01

Nanny, I get a month’s wages extra at Christmas, which is amazing.

The first time my boss gave it to me I thought she was having me my marching orders/redundancy money Blush I’d never had a bonus before.

tigercub50 · 19/12/2018 00:03

I got a voucher for a hot drink & cake in the store cafe but it was only valid for a week & I was too late!

ilovesooty · 19/12/2018 00:18

Nothing.

SpeckleDust · 19/12/2018 00:23

I’ve had a candle for the last few years. It’s a nice candle (but I’d rather have cash!)

bookbuddy · 19/12/2018 00:43

We used to get £200 a bottle of baileys and a box of chocs since we’ve been taken over nothing! I’m looking to get out, no pay rises either and it’s a struggle to get overtime paid they prefer you take the hours off. Xmas Sad grinches!

PorpentinaScamander · 19/12/2018 00:50

We got a £15 voucher last year. Not sure about this year.
DP is getting £250 which we are chuffed to hell with

Nakedavenger74 · 19/12/2018 05:54

Not specifically an Xmas bonus but a bonus based on performance (personal and company performance) paid in Jan. Last years was £15k. Best I've had is £28k but 'them days is gone' unfortunately

Groovee · 19/12/2018 05:54

Never had one.
