Can you recommend a really good coffee?

I decided to give DH a stocking this year (AKA a gift bag with presents that I can't be arsed to wrap). He loves coffee and has various contraptions; espresso machine, filter coffee machine, cafetiere, bean grinder etc but as a non-coffee drinker I haven't got a clue what to buy. Can you recommend a coffee, preferably from a supermarket (not Waitrose)?

Also any recommendations for mixed nuts and pork scratchings would be helpful too!

My dp likes bags of ground cofffee and quite fancy and expensive coffees from the internet but if hes buying a bag from the supermarket he always buys Starbucks!

I really like Illy, Lavazza or M & S house blend.

Snaffling pig for scratchings!

All def available in Sainsbury's Smile

Lavazza Caffe Espresso beans make a lovely cuppa.

I've seen Snaffling pig recommended before so I'll try them. I know he's had Illy & Lavazza before so they're possibilities.

I really like Extract Coffee - roasted in Bristol and it's all lovely. Call them for stockists as our local independent coffee place stocks it.

Bizarrely, we find the Italian Blend from Lidl really good. But it doesn't really feel very funky as a Christmas gift. But worth mentioning for reference.

Fresh coffee ... Aldi "Specially Selected" Java Blend

Instant coffee... Douwe Egberts

mogloveseggs · 18/12/2018 16:01

Ground coffee? The one we have at work is always complimented and is lichfields that we get from bookers.

Silver Oak Coffee silveroakcoffee.co.uk
you can order online. They make by far the best coffee I've ever had the pleasure of tasting and the owners have a real talent for selecting great beans to work with.

Whichever brand, I always prefer Kenyan or, if that's not available, Costa Rican. Kenyan coffee has a nice citrus taste and is less 'ashy' than others.

TattiePants · 18/12/2018 16:23

Thanks for the recommendations. I'll try a supermarket one and either Silver Oak or Extract coffee.

Aldi here too. Number 5 beans, but can’t remember the origin.

peony2325 · 18/12/2018 17:50

I really like this one from tesco, the best I've tried out of many, many brands

shutlingsloe · 18/12/2018 17:53

We've tried lots of coffee but keep coming back to Aldi number 5.

50 cal coffee company. They make their own blend, beans and ground, and it is, by far, the best coffee we’ve ever had (DP and I are hardened coffee drinkers!)

It’s veteran owned, and the proceeds go towards mental health support for veterans, hence the name.

It’s run by a guy called Rob who is awesome!

gillyweed · 18/12/2018 22:42

We have a bean to cup machine. Makes great coffee, we have tried loads of beans and without fail always come back to Simon Levell (very hard to find, sell in our local whole foods shop), and a close 2nd, I kid you not, Aldi Italian level 4 beans.

What is your budget? I have ordered Jacu bird coffee from Harrods (see link) for £175 and it is really, really good. But only spend this if he’s a genuine coffee afficianado. Many people say they are but aren’t really
