Can a bad cold give you a dicky stomach?

I’ve had a stinker of a cold since Saturday. My stomach’s now bubling away and I’ve had diarrhoea. I’ve got IBD so I’ve lost all perspective of what’s normal. Worried I’m starting to flare up but do ‘normal’ humans find that colds can upset their stomachs?

Vomiting is a cold symptom so I would assume yes.

canibehereifimnotamum · 18/12/2018 12:25

The last cold I had I was also really sick

Yeah, used to happen with the kids a lot

I asked my Doctor friend about this a few years ago and she said that it's normal to get an upset stomach with a cold. Hope you feel better soon Flowers

Ivegotthree · 18/12/2018 12:28

Yes it's v normal

Holidayshopping · 18/12/2018 12:29

What a coincidence-that’s just what I have. Cold, temperature, achy etc but was up loads last night with a dicky stomach as well. No sickness though.

I’ve never had that before with a cold!

InglouriousBasterd · 18/12/2018 12:35

Yes. Always assumed it is where I’m swallowing so much snot!

LooksBetterWithAFilter · 18/12/2018 12:38

That’s exactly the cold I have at the moment. I have had the odd cold like this before I wasn’t sure if it was all the snot I was unintentionally swallowing or the cold meds upsetting my stomach a bit.

retainertrainer · 18/12/2018 12:42

Phew! That’s a relief to hear. Hope all those with similar symptoms feel better soon 💐

Yes, because as a pp said, you tend to swallow secretions which irritate your stomach. If I have a cold it always gives me a tender abdomen as well as it can affect mesenteric lymph nodes as well as the usual nodes in your throat/neck etc.

Life0fBrian · 18/12/2018 19:08

Yep, I get an upset tummy and bloat a lot when I have a bad cold.

christmaschristmaschristmas · 18/12/2018 19:38

Colds/illness can trigger DDs IBD.

Hugs it is a horrible disease.

abbsisspartacus · 18/12/2018 19:40

I have graves disease so I can't have cough mixture/strepsils even a decongestant to help all I can have is a type of cough sweet which by day 2 upsets my stomach if I don't use them I practically pee my pants coughing Confused

VioletCharlotte · 18/12/2018 19:58

This sounds like the cold that's circulating my office at the moment. Snotty nose, sore throat, feeling nauseous, stomach pain, diarrhoea. It's crap isn't it?

spidereye · 19/12/2018 00:05

Yes, Swine flu does, sometimes it can be really mild, like a cold but with a dodgy tum.

Hatethewordhun · 19/12/2018 00:13

I had a bad cold 2 weeks ago with a terrible stomach, I've never had that with a cold before so it must be the type of virus going round!
