Gammon/sausages and a green veg. I’ve woken up really hungry this morning and this thread is making it worse!

Fairylea · 18/12/2018 07:24

We have it chips, bacon and mushrooms.

makingmiracles · 18/12/2018 07:26

WE have it with sausages, mash/cabbage and copious amounts of gravy. Also have it sometimes with a roast.

hugoagogo · 18/12/2018 07:30

Broccoli.

Worieddd · 18/12/2018 07:32

Pasta and cauliflower cheese (as one dish)

partystress · 18/12/2018 07:34

Smoked haddock. Lush.

MeetOnTheSIedge · 18/12/2018 07:44

Chips and peas or garlic bread and salad. We only ever have it as a main meal, never as an accompaniment to meat.

SymphonyofShadows · 18/12/2018 07:47

Sausages, total comfort food.

3sugars · 18/12/2018 07:48

Add macaroni and peas to the cheese sauce (some cooked chopped bacon or pancetta is lovely as well), then sprinkle breadcrumbs mixed with parmesan cheese over the top. Whole meal in itself

concernedforthefuture · 18/12/2018 07:49

Smoked streaky bacon. Grill it then chop it into the cheese sauce.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 18/12/2018 09:03

I often do it as a main - a cauliflower/macaroni cheese combo.

Extra (very cheesy, with extra mature cheddar) cheese sauce, cook cauliflower al dente and macaroni separately, drain both thoroughly, mix with sauce, scatter breadcrumbs and a little extra grated cheese on top, whack under the grill for a few minutes to brown.
Yum. Funnily enough I'm doing this tonight.
Sometimes I do a cauli/broccoli/macaroni combo, too.

I once made it for very unexpected guests since I didn't have enough of anything else - went down very well.

Merrz · 18/12/2018 09:08

Cold sliced meat (gammon is good) and mashed potatoes

Imnotswallowingthat · 18/12/2018 09:09

Cumberland Sausage & Cauliflower Cheese work well together

LowbrowVictoriana · 18/12/2018 09:12

Top tip: allow the cooked cauli to cool in the colander before putting on the dish and adding cheese sauce, or the steam makes your lovely rich sauce watery

Thank you so much for this. If I ever try to make a cauli (and, sometimes, broccoli) cheese bake it always goes watery. I did read that cooking it less would help; it didn't. Now I know what to do!

I make a bake with breadcrumbs on top and have a green side vegetable with it.
Delicious simplicity.

SallyWD · 18/12/2018 09:19

Sausages! Delia has a recipe where you serve it with brown cooked with onion, celery and carrot. It works really well. Delicious.

FourFuxxakes · 18/12/2018 09:20

Boiled new potatoes and either some battered fish or a nut cutlet thing.

ScrambledSmegs · 18/12/2018 09:23

We have it as a main, with a green salad and vinaigrette. Cuts through the richness of the cheese sauce beautifully.

I grill my cauli cheese. Surely that stops the watery issue?

PeroniZuchini · 18/12/2018 09:25

Baked beans and sausages

JustKeepSwimmingJustKeepSwimmi · 18/12/2018 09:25

A sausage and some chips

Queenofthedrivensnow · 18/12/2018 09:26

Chips

BertrandRussell · 18/12/2018 09:27

Grilled tomatoes and crisps.

whodoyoufollow · 18/12/2018 09:28

Mash and loads of gravy Smile my fave especially with cauliflower cheese I do add a bit of horseradish sauce to give it a bit of a kick to it. Perfect belly filling food for cold days x
