Have you succeeded in successfully gluing cork tiles to a concrete floor?

Hi, I have asthma, my dusty carpets are 25 years old[!] and need replacing. I have been told that I need to put in a plywood 'underlayment' under cork tiles, but some 'expert advice boards' advice contradicts this, saying you can stick tiles directly to concrete, if dry and smooth. I love d.i.y, [somewhat inexpertly!]. Any advice greatfully received!

We stuck them to a walk made out of some bizarre insulting stuff and had to buy the expensive special cork tile adhesive.

Do you realise you could put down Lino instead?

I did it nearly 30 years ago - they’re still down & well stuck! (Surface is very poor in places, partly destroyed by dishwasher leaks years back, but tiles are sound). Floor area covered is about 10’ square.

It was a fairly new concrete floor, sealed with diluted white PVA glue iirc. I was generous with the adhesive, & pushed & held them in position really hard - took me days afterwards to stop aching Grin

Cork is a bit old hat though, albeit cheap. Might be worth considering eg Karndean if you could afford it (not a DIY job)

Oh, you can DIY apparently!

We had wood effect strips laid in our hall (also concrete) quite recently & it looks great
