If you regularly take prescription medication, does it/do they make you have strange dreams ?

I take citalopram and allopurinol daily. I think it's the former that makes my brain do bizarre things during the night that you really couldn't make up. Last night, for example, I was in a very old Dr. Who episode from a story that never existed. Jon Pertwee and Katy Manning were my 'co-stars', along with my one of my old primary school teachers ! The latter was now an antiques expert in the mould of the Antiques Roadshow. Recently, I dreamt that the airport where I work was now being rebuilt (it will be soon), half the control tower was missing and access to it was via an old department store !

I swear I'm not making this up. How is it and why does some medication lead to such vivid dreams ? I look forward to the day I can stop or at least cut down the pills.

My father had this on citalopram.

It might be that you're actually sleeping deeper/better due to the tablets, and so you're just spending more time dreaming?

I've taken vitamins to improve sleep before and they always gave me crazy dreams

I take Amytriptiline (sp?) following bereavement and it has stopped me remembering dreams. I used to dream vividly. Occasionally I'll remember something. I read that Prozac helps with weight loss but gives bad dreams and sleep. Mine helps put on weight and helps sleep but seems to stop me remembering dreams.

Sorry, think it said prozac gave vivid/strange dreams not bad dreams. I'd like the weight loss side of prozac but it would be no good for me re sleep/dreaming which is what i wanted help with
