Forceps marks on baby’s face

Hello mamas, I’m a second time mother to a gorgeous baby girl. She is one month old today and was born through a forceps delivery. She is thriving in all aspects and feeding well however she still has a scar/impression under her left eye from where the forceps was used. I know that most forceps scars fade in the first two days after birth and am worried hers is a permanent one!

Has anybody had babies via forceps whose scars lingered past a month but eventually faded to nothing. Any reassuring experience would be helpful.

Many thanks ladies

Hi, my daughters marks ran the whole way down the one aide of her face, faded completely after around a couple of months. She is now 2.5 and the only time I can see them is when she is coming down with something, not sure what the science is behind it but its only very subtle but they raise up a day or so before a cold or virus pops up. They will probably continue to fade I would have thought x

I had a big graze/scab from being delivered with forceps. No mark visible in photos after a couple of months, and certainly nothing permanent. Babies heal so well, I wouldn't worry.

My dd1 was really badly marked by forceps, she had a large mark under her eye until she was around 2. Like pp, when dd was ill/tired (paler than usual) they were more noticeable, but were definitely fading. Dd is 16 now and still has a faint scar under her hairline.

Is it definitely from forceps?
Some babies are born with slight birthmarks often known as stork mark or stork bites or angels kisses. They usually fade over time.

Hi Popsickle, thank you for that. I do hope my dd’s marks will fade in time too. It still looks the same as the day she was born. That is why I am worried. X

Thank you. My dd marks are quite like that too. Faint in photos but rather clear in bright light. Hopefully it will heal fully

Thank you humphump. That’s the kind of answer I was looking for. A timeframe for how long it takes to heal. My firstborn has forceps scars too which faded within days. Hence my fears that my dd’s would be permanent

Hi rat speaker, it is definitely not a birth mark. It’s impression of the forcep on her cheek for sure. My firstborn had it too but it healed quickly. My husband who’s an ex clinician said there’s a clot underneath and that it will heal after several weeks. But I think he’s saying it to calm me. Only time will tell
