Potty Training

I will shortly be potty training my 2 and a half year old son and am just looking for any tips that you found useful when potty training your children.

In my experience of two boys I would say wait til it's warmer. Both mine average in all respects but trained before two. Ds2 trained just after two. We use a very slow approach....

1. Indoctrination about the potty and how amazing it is using pirate Pete potty book or similar. Just having the potty around the house, pretending teddy's having a wee etc, you could do this bit now. Watching daddy having a big boy wee etc.
2. Sitting on potty a bit here and there whole watching TV or before Bath.

3.lots and lots of time with no bottoms on at all just nude waist down. This is where you need the warm. Then they can feel what a wee is like. We have a big garden so it was all about being outside and weeing on certain plants like an aiming game. We did this as a long stage of about a month. Get the feel of pushing a wee out and control.

1. Then putting them on the potty inside the house when they had already or you had caught them doing a wee

5.bribe of chocolate smarties for a wee in potty, then later just for poos. 6.no fuss if accidents but making sure it involved a fairly slow change in another room so they could see it was taking them away from playing or dinner. Most importantly grandparents or nursery all doing it at the same time too.

There's a million ways to do it, it's what's best for you but there will be lots of washing involved! Good luck it seems like forever at the time and needs great reserves of patience at times but it's so worth it!
