Who else is on countdown?

I've got 5 days left at work including today, then 11 days off. No school run til 7th January!!

Yay!

Myself and youngest DS have 4.5 days left. Two eldest have 2.5 days and DH has 4 days.
We are looking forward to Saturday and spending loads of time together.
Like you we are all off of work and school until the 7th of January.

MissMogwai · 17/12/2018 07:25

5 days for me too. Looking forward to a proper break from work!

CakeNinja · 17/12/2018 07:28

All 5 of us have 5 days left and like you, none of us go back until the 7th.
Bloody lovely 😊

BlackeyedGruesome · 17/12/2018 07:29

half term is not until february. Confused

Pinotwoman82 · 17/12/2018 07:31

3 days left at work/school then back in the 3rd!

GrammarTeacher · 17/12/2018 07:40

When did people start calling all holidays half term? I've noticed it a few times. Half terms are in October, February and May.

Girlsnightin · 17/12/2018 07:53

Ignore the pedantry OP! ( those guys must be a blast if RL)

5 days for me too AND no school run til the 7th. That in itself is a gift indeed!!!!

Now, let me pop in a spelling error for the grammar nazis......

LoniceraJaponica · 17/12/2018 08:03

I work part time and love my job. The enforced holiday at this time of year has me climbing the walls by the time I go back to work after the Christmas shut down.

We can't go away as DD is working in retail as a Christmas temp, and the train strikes and lack of late trains means I have to take her to and from work on some days. Taxis are too expensive - £60 return, and no buses to where she works from where we live.

BitchQueen90 · 17/12/2018 09:07

I finish on Thursday. DS finishes school on Friday. I'm back on the 2nd and he's back on the 7th.

GrammarTeacher · 17/12/2018 09:19

Not pedantry. Genuine interest. Didn't see this anywhere until a couple of years ago and now I see it everywhere. When did it start? Where did it come from? Language change is inevitable, nothing wrong with being interested in where the changes come from and when they started.

CormoranStrike · 17/12/2018 09:26

Four more days to work then off till the 31st! Yippee

Littlebelina · 17/12/2018 09:33

DS and dh finish on Wednesday and aren't back until 7th. I'm on maternity leave so we get a full 2.5 weeks as a family of 4!

cjt110 · 17/12/2018 10:08

@GrammarTeacher No idea.... It's always been half term in my house.

Is it a regional variation on school holidays?
Everywhere I know it is Christmas holidays, Easter holidays and summer holidays. Half term is October, February and May.

carrie74 · 17/12/2018 13:05

My 2 broke up last week, I finish on Thursday, DH finishes on Friday (but wanted me yesterday he might need to work over Xmas after all). DH and I (supposed to be) off til 2nd Jan, kids back on the 8th! Yippee!!

Abra1de · 17/12/2018 13:06

Every holiday seems to be called half term. Very annoying,

Chocolatecake12 · 17/12/2018 13:08

I’ve got 3 more days after today then 10 days off. One ds has 1 more day, the other 2 more but ds17 is working as a Christmas temp in retail so working all over Christmas.
My dp is working Christmas Eve and on call Boxing Day so not much of a break for him.

OhDearGodLookAtThisMess · 17/12/2018 14:44

I've noticed this too, and sorry, but it's just wrong. Half term, as its name suggests, occurs halfway through the term.
The more people complain of pedantry and the grammar police, the more our language will sink into confusion.

ExplodedPeach · 17/12/2018 14:47

Half term is presumably because it's the end of another half of a term? Like, it's been half a term since the last break?

I finish work thursday lunchtime, cannot wait

AdamNichol · 17/12/2018 14:54

2 days and this afternoon to go

thatmustbenigelwiththebrie · 17/12/2018 14:57

I finish on Weds and go back on Jan 2. I really can't wait to have a break. I never have more than a few days off work at a time so this will a nice long stretch.

OhDearGodLookAtThisMess · 17/12/2018 16:04

ExplodedPeach, But that's just a made-up explanation and is wrong.

Anyway, we all need a break. End-of-term 2pm Thursday for us. Can't wait.

youwouldthink · 17/12/2018 18:21

1pm Thursday. Can't wait!

anniehm · 17/12/2018 18:39

Picked up from school on Saturday, the wonders of boarding school that they get more holidays! I finish Friday but have to go in on 28th to finalise end of year alas. Countdown to annual relative invasion on Saturday has begun...

Kilash · 17/12/2018 18:42

No holiday here I have Christmas Day off (but it's a normal day off), double shift Boxing Day day, double shift New Years day. No holidays at all until Feb half term...(NHS)
