Is London still worth it for graduates?

When I graduates in the mid 80s, London was seen as the place to be, and all of my fellow course mates who made the move, have ended up very successful with very very expensive properties, and high incomes. There is no way if they had stayed here in Scotland would they have become so comfortably off.

My DS is going to graduate in a year or so, and is aiming on going into the Law. He currently studies around 60 miles from London, so is well equated with the South.

My question being, is London still worth it for graduates? Yes it is exciting, but it is still hugely expensive for an even average standard of living. Yes salaries are much much lower in areas such as Manchester and Bristol, but then so are property prices much more in line.

Have the days of move to the big smoke to make your fortune, well and truly past?

I don't think it's much different, tbh. My dd1 graduated last year, and she and all her friends got graduate jobs in London.

My company (global insurance company) offer a brilliant graduate development programme. It’s very competitive. The Big Four plus Accenture and Deloitte Digital are also very competitive salaries and benefits.

Yes still worth it. Even when companies build head offices outside of London, their London jobs can often pay between 50-100% more! I suggest he looks at London jobs first.
