Would you rather receive 1 or 2 expensive gifts, or lots of smaller ones?

I've just about finished my Christmas shopping and wondered if most people prefer to receive a pile of gifts or just 1 or 2 expensive ones? Quantity or quality, or should there be a mix?

I've spent just under £200 on my partner but he'll only have 2 small items to unwrap.

He's hinted that I've got lots and I'm now wondering if he will be disappointed. This is our first Christmas together. I'd prefer not to exchange gifts at (it's all about the children for me) but it seems important to him.

I would rather have one or two more expensive/good quality things that I actually want/need/will use.

Alienspaceship · 16/12/2018 19:30

Quality

SimplyPut · 16/12/2018 19:30

Quality every time.

Quality.

I'd rather have lots of little things, but thoughtful things I will actually use. Nobody ever buys me things like bath bombs and nice lip balm Sad

missmouse101 · 16/12/2018 19:33

God, no gifts at all. Would rather choose my own things and not have something bought just for the sake of it.

poppyseed2 · 16/12/2018 19:33

Mostly quality over quantity. The exception would be if somebody was a little less sure of my tastes, in which case lots of small (but still nice and thoughtful!) tokens is better than one expensive item which could miss the mark!

greendale17 · 16/12/2018 19:34

Quality over quantity, every single time

ScreamingValenta · 16/12/2018 19:34

As long as they're thoughtful, I don't mind.

nicelyneurotic · 16/12/2018 19:35

Thank you all! 1 thing is something I know he wants, the other is a thoughtful gift I think he will really like.

Find buying presents quite stressful!

Quality over quantity definitely...but I've not always thought that. This is the first year DH and I have set a maximum of 2 pressies each (1 big one and 1 small) ...because it's DS's first Christmas and we're so short on space as it is!!!

YahBasic · 16/12/2018 19:35

I tend to get DH 2-3 things between about 50-100 and then get another 5-6 things that total 50 and a stocking that’s less than a tenner.

SexNotJenga · 16/12/2018 19:36

Quality. I'd rather have 4 top quality rum truffles than a kilo of Dairy Milk.

In general, nicer versions of stuff I use anyway. Black merino tights. Proper grown up shower gel. Quality running socks.

tillytoodles1 · 16/12/2018 19:40

My H and I have spent about £250.00 each on gifts for each other. I've got three, he's got one. We'd rather have decent gifts than loads of tat.
