What Christmas present did you get as a child that you'll never forget?

For me it was a cabbage patch doll when everyone was going mad for them in the 80's. My mum swore blind for months that they'd sold out and it was gonna happen for me. I remember unwrapping her and being overjoyed, and my mum having that smug look on her face Grin. 20-odd years later I inadvertently named my DD after the CP doll's middle name Blush nothing ever beat that present! She's still in my attic (the doll. Not my mum)

An Alice in Wonderland Doll that had little discs that you put in a space in her back and played songs. The local florist had the same doll in the window and I always admired it when walking past with my mum. To this day I remember the feeling of absolute happiness when I unwrapped it on Christmas Day. It's probably still the best present I've ever had Smile

A toy Post Office! It was amazing, I would stand behind that counter for hours, selling stamps, taking in parcels, giving out parcels...not having the right change Xmas Grin I used to say I'd be a Post Master when I grew up.

Oh man, I'm now regretting my life choices. I think I'd still love it Xmas Grin

My birthday is 3 days before Christmas. I remember one year asking for a digital camera and a playstation... I secretly didn't think I'd get both but was stunned when I did. My Mum must have worked her arse off to afford them both.

I also remember my 18th and my mum bought me a beautiful leather purse. She put £100 in cash inside and I bought a diamond ring with it.

Without sounding spoilt, I always got what I asked for and looking back now, I realise just how hard my Mum must have worked.

A Reflectograph. It must've been in the sixties... It was a piece of blue perspex on a little stand that reflected images onto a piece of paper that you could then draw or copy.
An Elna Lotus sewing machine many years later.

A teeny tiny tears doll, which could drink milk from a bottle :-)

Bluesheep8 · 17/12/2018 17:21

A dolls house one year. A magna doodle and a spirograph another year. Oh and Barbie's horse, Dallas!

LuggsaysNotaWomen · 17/12/2018 17:24

A dolls house. Not of a particular brand but it was lovely and I played with it loads.

LuggsaysNotaWomen · 17/12/2018 17:25

Oh and a Major Morgan. My mum wouldn’t buy me faddy toys on principle, so I was thrilled when this one slipped through.

This isn't me, but a friend of mine, tweeting last Christmas - it went viral, and you can understand why...

She's deleted her Twitter account now, alas. But she's still awesome Smile

Bishalisha · 17/12/2018 17:37

My Furbie. It was the first year they were out and all the rage. I was about 8 or 9?

It was the last one on the shelf and the ugliest one you could ever choose. I cherished it dearly and defended it fiercely

Isitweekendyet · 17/12/2018 17:39

@multivac That truly is beautiful - how special is your friend?

Did she stay in touch with the girlfriend?

Empathy56 · 17/12/2018 17:39

Heart to Heart teddy bear. When you squeezed it you could feel it’s heart beating. I think my mum still has it...

It's been brought back, and I bought it for my niece and nephew. They love it too!

multivac · 17/12/2018 22:32

She isn't in touch with the girlfriend isit - she did wonder if the thread going viral might reach her, and wasn't really sure if that was fair or not. But it was all part of what went into making her the amazing human (and, frankly, fabulous mother) she is today...

Milliways · 17/12/2018 22:33

My favourite was a horse for my Action Girl (had more working joints than Sindy!)

I was too old really for cabbage patch kids, but a neighbour worked in the factory and I got a ‘reject’ as an extra one year as a teenager. Absolutely loved him, so did my DD and he’s just come out the loft again and now my Grandson lives him too.

sophisticatedsarcasm · 17/12/2018 22:58

Mine was pregnant Barbie, I was the only one to get one out of my friends so they all used to come around to play. I loved the size of the baby 😂😂

sophisticatedsarcasm · 17/12/2018 22:58

Easy bake oven.... and they actually tasted alright 😊

Lokisglowstickofdestiny · 17/12/2018 23:05

My Raleigh Budgie bike. It was the junior version of the Chopper. My first bike, turquoise, my dad taught me to ride it. It was probably the last very physical thing he was able to do before he became very ill and died some years later. Sorry to put a downer on the thread!
The other present I most remember is one of those dolls heads that you could apply make up to and style their hair. She lasted a good few years until I decided she was punk and cut most of her hair off.

Didsomeonesaybunny · 17/12/2018 23:42

Dream phone! A karaoke machine and a massive Sylvanian family house

RomanyRoots · 17/12/2018 23:47

I've posted about this before and whilst not in keeping with the ethos of the thread.

My dad bought me a black doll and a white doll, I was two and this was the Christmas after the River of Blood speech.
Not only did those dolls become best friends that I adored for years but later in life I got to see the significance.
