What Christmas present did you get as a child that you'll never forget?

For me it was a cabbage patch doll when everyone was going mad for them in the 80's. My mum swore blind for months that they'd sold out and it was gonna happen for me. I remember unwrapping her and being overjoyed, and my mum having that smug look on her face Grin. 20-odd years later I inadvertently named my DD after the CP doll's middle name Blush nothing ever beat that present! She's still in my attic (the doll. Not my mum)

S0upertrooper, wasn't it called a Stylophone, because you had to use a stylus to play the notes? I vaguely recall something like this, although I didn't have one - I think I was probably getting a bit too old by that point!

One year my parents gave me a Virgin airlines kit bag. I was Confused until they said we were off to NYC the next day (flying Virgin as I liked the Crystal Gayle song in the ad at the time). I don't remember as much as I'd like but I know we did Radio City on my birthday and it's pretty much the best surprise I've ever had. They didn't have money to throw around either.

I got a little yellow typewriter when I was about 6 or 7yo from Santa. I remember it mostly because it was too big to fit in the stocking.
It was much bigger than presents usually were for us, and I found out later that it had been bought for someone else, but then they didn't want it, so offered it to dm.

Also a dolls pram at a similar age. This had a toddler seat on top and was the most fantastic pram ever. It was second hand, but I was amazed with all the little bits it had. I still have it.

@Heuschrecke you're correct, stylo-I'll blame that on auto correct, which is as shit as the stylophone was!!!

Buzz light-year, the year that toy story came out. My mum had an actual fight with a a woman over it, apparently she tried to take it out of my mum's hands, mum lamped her. I still actually have him Xmas Grin

I grew up in a household where Father Christmas was a bit of a shit (I've had many visits to the Stately Homes thread)
I will never ever forget the Christmas when my fantastic aunt bought me the A La Carte Kitchen.

To this day, it's still the best Xmas present I EVER got.

There's a few that really stand out. Fashion wheel is one of them, played with it for hours and hours creating different looks, another is girls world.

Aged 4 a nurses outfit. In beautiful striped cotton, with a little hat and a cross-body bag with a Red Cross on it that I filled with mint sweets. It had a cape and everything.
Utterly wonderful.

squeakywheelie · 16/12/2018 21:23

My parents constant disappointment in every gift I bought them with my pocket money. I was never good enough.

The year I got my beloved werebear. He could be cute or mean looking by folding over a part of his head to display fangs and claws on his paws. I always had him mean looking and he kept me safe from monsters!

Also the year i got my joanna doll for Christmas, she was the same height as me. Sadly my brothers made me watch child's play and I was scared of her so gave her away to my neighbours kid!

missyB1 · 16/12/2018 21:29

Money was very tight in our family so presents were modest. But I remember loving a Snoopy jigsaw puzzle. Also every Christmas I would get a new Enid Blyton or Chalet School book, reading the book would be my highlight of the day.

Lovestonap · 16/12/2018 21:34

So many happy present memories. A desk and chair for my room, a lovely yellow bike, and a pound puppy mother and babies which I was sure I wasn't going to get because my mum said she wasn't going to buy me such rubbish. I was such a lucky child. Only ever had one Christmas when I was disappointed with my main present, which isn't bad going really! 😂

DesperatelySeekingSnoozing · 16/12/2018 21:56

A naf naf jumper and Benetton jacket. Was so desperate for them and never had designer clothes before then. This thread reminds me of this men.

A dolls house made by my dad. It wasn't big and fancy but he spent his evenings making it when I was in bed. My mum helped make curtains for the windows and cover the wooden furniture in felt and they bought a little family for it.

My sister and I both got dolls prams one year and my brother got a snooker table - that must have been a good year as they were expensive toys with 3 children.

Girliefriendlikesflowers · 16/12/2018 22:19

I remember getting a toy sweet shop that had real sweets in it, I loved it!

Various dolls and soft toys who were all much loved.

A polar bear reversible jumper/sweatshirt that I wore all the time.

I was lucky.

I got my dd a hudl (cheapish tablet) a few years ago, she was about 8/9yo and have her reaction on video, it makes me a bit teary as she was so shocked, grateful and delighted. We're not a big technology family and it was the first time she had been given anything like that. Kids can be grateful these days...

Flatwhitequeen · 16/12/2018 22:25

Sindy house and all the furniture including the four poster bed. And also a giant colouring book

MsMiaWallace · 16/12/2018 22:28

A sega Mega Drive!

greathat · 16/12/2018 22:35

A tent in the shape of a caravan. Apparently I spent the entirety of Xmas day in it

Fr3d · 16/12/2018 22:35

I can only remember 1 present...a giant teddy bear. Interesting...I can remember sleighing in the snow, going in for hot chocolate, going to a shopping centre and seeing all the christmas lights...

I had an etch a sketch, dolls house, rollerskates etc, they must have been presents, but what I remember most is things we did, not stuff we got

xiaolongbao · 16/12/2018 22:37

We didn't really get presents at Christmas (tended to get money in an envelope), so I always remember when my parents bought me Sheldon the Keyper. I kept him for years.

The big yellow teapot.

36 years later it is the gift I remember.
