Forbidden Island....where are we going wrong?

We bought it yesterday and we’ve played 6 games and won all of them

We must be doing something wrong as i don’t think it’s supposed to be that easy.

Any obvious rules we may have missed or got confused?

I don't know but I'm interested to find out. We've had the game for a few years and I don't think we've ever lost a game.

What level do you play on? If we play the hardest level we only win maybe two thirds of the time (and we’re good at it)

Yeah you'll do that until you do it at the hardest level. Then if you make one step wrong move you'll sink. Its a very overrated games

Hard to guess but could you be you shuffling all the flood cards when the waters rise rather than just the ones already used?

Hace you got the right amount of flood cards in the deck? Do you shuffle the discarded pile and add them to the top before drawing after a flood alert?

Yes we’re adding the discarded flood cards to the top of the flood pile, not mixing them in

When you capture a treasure do you put those treasure cards back into the discard pile or remove them from the game?

Playing on the novice level at the moment

We bought this a few months ago. We've won enough times on novice that we've upped it to normal, and now win about 2/3 of the time. What difficulty level are you playing?

X- post OP. We keep the discarded treasure cards in the pack. You need to go up a level or two!

Novice is ridiculously easy. Its just while you get the idea of the game.
