Is it safe to post stuff I've sold on Facebook? He's offered to pay by PayPal as though that's safe but can't you retract the payments and claim not received?

Oh good call, I could do that, but what if he says it arrived broken or was the wrong thing? It's electronics

If they send the payment as for "goods and services" they can claim not received or item not as described. Not received, just make sure you send tracked. Not as described, they would have to pay to return it before PayPal will force a refund. They can also do a card chargeback, but as long as you provide proof of delivery (do keep your postage receipt) you are covered. Keep the receipt for 180 days as that is the timeframe they can open a case.

Ohhh ok thanks so PayPal works a bit like eBay then?

And it's ok to do the goods and services option, I don't have to get him to do friends and family so he can't retract it?

Gumtree always have ads up to tell you never to post so I always assume it's dodgy.

Don’t let him pay via friends and family, he can still retract the payment via his card company and you have no recourse at all.
