What’s happening in your house today?

All welcome, on your own or with an extended family of 30 Smile

I’m lounging in bed with coffee and Mumsnet while the DCs play with their Sylvanian Families.

The house is like you wouldn’t believe and DD has a friend coming at 3pm. I’m going to try to clean up the worst of it but need to be realistic.

Then going to make a plan for the week. Hoping to get out at 5 to see a friend’s choir perform locally, even if I have to go on my own. Ideally though I’d take the whole family and we’d have a Christmas outing (arguments optional).

You?

Currently eating breakfast with 2 DDs. Off to our Arabic class and then dropping 1 DD at a badminton comp and then going into town for last minute Xmas shopping with the other. DH still in bed.

Mum2OneTeen · 16/12/2018 09:54

Another manic pre-Christmas day here. I have been painting the outside windows and doors for what feels like forever, but finally have finished tonight. Halfway through, there was a crazy thunderstorm with hail and a down pour of rain which didn't help matters and flooded the newly painted surfaces. Undeterred and determined finish today, I mopped up, repainted and now have a fan heater on outside trying to dry the paint off.

I'm now lying on the bed absolutely pooped and nursing a sore back after pulling a muscle helping DP lift a new wall oven in & the old one out.

Anyway, all done now! So much for a relaxing Sunday!

stegosauruslady · 16/12/2018 09:54

Well, I finally have a little bit of energy (36 weeks pregnant and been full of cold for a week), so when the DDs get home from their Dad's house in a few minutes we will be blitzing the house (they can do their rooms!) and inviting some of their friends over to play for the afternoon. I'm going to do a few last bits of baby related sorting out.

DP is at work (his last day before Christmas break!), but this evening I'm going to help him with his Christmas shopping as he has a lot more people to buy for than I do!

Mum2OneTeen · 16/12/2018 09:55

MaidenMother seems like we're kindred spirits with the never ending painting...ugh!

Bluearsedfly36 · 16/12/2018 09:56

Trying to get comfy. I slipped outside yesterday and put my back out, in agony. Have so much to do too 😭😭😭

EsmeeMerlin · 16/12/2018 09:57

We have a really busy week so we are indoors having a laidback pj day before it all starts. Waiting on a food delivery shop to arrive while ds1 and ds2 are playing on the floor and watching Santa clause. Have done a lot of cleaning already so having an hour sitting down before doing some more. Today is just house chores and Christmas films.

brizzledrizzle · 16/12/2018 10:01

I'm not up yet as I'm home alone, probably my first lie in in 20 years ShockI'm going to clean the kitchen to within an inch of its life today. The two things are probably related Grin

shecamefromgreece · 16/12/2018 10:04

We had a really laid back day chilling and watching Xmas movies yesterday so I need to get cracking today.
Dh is taking the four kids swimming with his dad and brother then to Nando's for lunch.
I'm replacing the sealant around the bath and cleaning the grout, I also need to clean the blinds in our bedroom, go and buy a present for dds friend birthday who's party is this afternoon, drop dd at the party
And also order some books for Xmas presents.
Somewhere in the middle of that I need to make dinner.

SagelyNodding · 16/12/2018 10:04

Well, DH has had a wonderful night's sleep snoring like a warthog and is out for a coffee in the village... I have had a shit night of listening to the warthog and am semi-comatose on the sofa.
The kids are happily playing upstairs until I find the energy to get them to do their homework...
Then, I have to revise for 2 University exams and plan my final week of lessons before the holidays...(debating just putting a film on for the last day, but it would be frowned upon)
What I want to be doing is: super hot bath with bubbles, massage, making mince pies and watching Christmas films on Netflix... Not going to happen Xmas Sad

itbemay · 16/12/2018 10:06

Power cut here so camping gas stove in the garden for cups of tea and waiting! It's a bit chilly!

itbemay · 16/12/2018 10:07

Oh gawd! Reading all these lovely posts! Cakes baking, Netflix, breakfasts! You really don't realise how much you rely on electricity!!

YahBasic · 16/12/2018 10:12

Very much a lazy day. We have no plans and nowhere we need to be for once!

DH is making doughnuts for breakfast and then we will probably decamp to the sofa for the rest of the day with blankets, in between making a roast later.

Xiaoxiong · 16/12/2018 10:21

We had an epic Christmas party last night - so tidying up with a hangover and lots of coffee! A long dog walk and a snooze on the sofa in front of a film is all we can face for the rest of the day Grin

Bloodybridget · 16/12/2018 10:33

Not very busy - don't know what DP is doing at all. I've been doing some social emails and arrangements for new year house swap, checking ingredients and adding to shopping list; going out to sing carols outdoors this afternoon, and going to a church carol service this evening. All the decs are up and my very few presents wrapped.

BadlyAgedMemes · 16/12/2018 10:42

We slept late. Coffee and biscuits for breakfast...

Spent yesterday hibernating indoors because of the weather, so today we need haul ourselves to do some shopping. Apart from that, I need to ice and decorate a bunch of biscuits, and really crack on my crochet, if I want to finish a blanket I'm supposed to give as a Christmas present to someone.

Otherwise, I doubt very much will happen at all.

MiddlingMum · 16/12/2018 10:42

Just waiting for the second lot of laundry to finish before a couple of hours gardening, then a long walk until dusk. Also need to tidy up a bit ready for some builders coming to finish our new porch tomorrow. Then some knitting and a run this evening. I'm ignoring the fact that Christmas is just over a week away, I hate how it tries to take over for weeks in advance. Will probably give it a bit of thought sometime later next week Grin

ginghamstarfish · 16/12/2018 10:44

Out to lunch ( a rare event for us) to a 'Festive Carvery'. As I have to (reluctantly as I'm not a great cook ) do Christmas dinner this year, I thought it would be nice for us to have a proper one beforehand. Then a look round the teeny Christmas Market in the town square, home and into pjs for the rest of the day.

TheFairyCaravan · 16/12/2018 10:44

I've already done all the ironing because I woke at 5am and couldn't go back to sleep. I hadn't nap between 8 and 9.30am. I'm just watching Marr then I'm going to have a shower, put my clothes away, and hold the hamster while DH cleans him out.

We've got a full house because DS1 is home on leave from the army and DS2 and his girlfriend are here for the weekend because she's working on Christmas Eve & Christmas Day (they're both nurses), so we're having roast beef for dinner, DS2's choice, before they go back later for work tomorrow.

I'll fit some crochet in too, hopefully.

Owletty · 16/12/2018 10:47

I'm sitting on the settee in my pjs mumsnetting.
Dh is prepping dinner.
Dd is watching Peppa pig and ds is building a den in the living room.
Once dh has finished in the kitchen I'll have a shower and then I think we're taking the kids to see Santa and to the park.
Nice, lazy Sunday.

TimeWoundsAllHeals · 16/12/2018 10:49

Husband playing computer game. 11 month old crawling around. Me staring at my phone. 2 year old watching hey duggie on his iPad.

Once kids are in bed husband is going to show me how to make sense of a stack trace in an object dump.

Lookatmeeee · 16/12/2018 10:52

Having a lazy day before the manic of work and Christmas kicks in next week. Lying on sofa with coffee, ds watching Netflix. He's got a cold coming so grumps. Just need to do some washing and them cooking roast chicken later.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 16/12/2018 10:58

DD - severe discalculia - has her maths tutor in, because you cannot escape it - vector analysis at the moment.
DS is grumpy because I reminded him of an oncoming physics test he needs to prepare for.
DH is at church.
I tried to install a booster for our router signal. All lights are on but I do not know if it really worked.

Alsonification · 16/12/2018 10:59

Brought dd (20) to work for 8am, went back to bed & woke up at 10:05 thinking I’d slept it out for work & nearly had a heart attack lol. Ds (16) is still in bed. I’m drinking tea trying to muster up the energy to pop to Tesco for shopping. Did all housework yesterday except wash floors so I’ve not much to do only get the shopping, throw a chicken in the oven, wash floors & then watch Xmas movies for the day. I’ve a bit of a cold & its very wet here so I need a sofa day.

KnitFastDieWarm · 16/12/2018 11:02

Love reading all these, they make me feel festive and cosy Xmas Grin Having ‘fake Christmas’ with my parents as we’re at the in-laws on the day itself. Yesterday we went to a Christmas model village and to a carol service and a Christmas market for mulled wine, and me and dh went out for dinner. This morning we had presents and now DS is building Lego with my DF, DM is cooking a roast, and we’re off to see great granny later for tea Smile tomorrow one one of my oldest friends is coming to visit - I’ve not seen him for two years and can’t wait to have a festive catchup!

VioletCharlotte · 16/12/2018 11:03

I'm just back from a dog walk and having coffee. I'm going to a body balance class in a bit, then popping in to see an old friend. Both DS are still asleep, DS1 is working this afternoon. DS2 went to a party last night so won't surface for some time! This evening I'm going to a carol concert with a friend.
