If a product says it’s dishwasher safe what does that mean to you?

The coating has started to come off after just a few months and they are replacing it for me but have said that it has come off because I’ve put it in the dishwasher.
I said that it said dishwasher safe and they told me it doesn’t mean dishwasher proof and I was using the wrong detergents.

Thats a cop out, it isn't safe for dishashers oviously. They are trying to cover their own arse.
Dishwasher safe means bung it in the dishwasher. No matter what detergent you use.

I always wash baking trays by hand. I find the dishwasher bakes stuff on to baking trays

Yes dishwasher safe clearly means shove in dishwasher and think no more about it. I've seen things say top shelf dishwasher safe before but that doesn't even say that. Wrong detergent??
