Dp has taken an interest in drinking IPA when we are out, I usually get her a nice red wine for Christmas but this year I’m making her a beer hamper in addition to her other gifts. So far I have 2 brew dog IPA’s but I’m a bit overwhelmed by all the choice in the shops, can anyone recommend any tasty ones?

I’m also adding pork crackling, bbq pork scratching and nuts if anyone has any other good ideas that could go in that would be appreciated, Dp is female so I don’t want to make the hamper too ‘blokey’ which a lot of the beer related thing I’ve seen seem aimed at

Thanks

M&S have some in lovely tins too which aren't blokey at all.

What kinds of IPAs does she like normally? Any hops that you’ve heard her talk about? Citra/Amarillo/Galaxy? If you know she likes Punk IPA that has a lot of different hops in it you can mix and match (Chinook, Ahtanum, Amarillo, Cascade, Simcoe, Nelson Sauvin) so look for beers that have those hops in them. It’s a wheat beer, do you know if she likes Rye beer, for example?

I’d its for a gift I’d definitely look at getting her some more obscure or local breweries if you can - Brewdog is a bit ‘mainstream’ now (or maybe that’s just my own DP being horrifically snobbish/hipster!). Google craft beer shops near you, in my experience they’re always happy to recommend stuff based on beers you know she’s tried and liked. Otherwise, as PP said, supermarkets actually have a really good range nowadays - ASDA in particular near me has loads of different ones.

Also, you could maybe look at local breweries and get a voucher for a tour? I don’t even drink beer but I love a good brewery tour, it’s fascinating! There’s also brewing experience days and brew kits you could look into as well?

I love Beavertown's Gamma Ray, Sierra Nevada, Stewart Brewing's First World Problems.

Stone IPA is awesome. Oakham Citra is also vv good, possibly my favourite single hop IPA. Brewdog Mr President is dangerously strong at 9.2%, despite tasting like it has half the strength. Hopshackle do an amazing Double IPA which is one of my favourite beers, along with their Imperial Russian Stout.

I would see if there are any shops near you selling beers from independent brewers as they are usually very helpful and can recommend some. There is a brewery called Mikeller and the beers I have had are very nice (a big M&S will stock some of them). I recently had the attached which was very nice.
Brewdog have expanded massively but are still independent. Sadly Heineken bought a stake in Beavertown.

Have you looked at Beerhawk? They have a brilliant selection and have hampers with everything already together.

Thank you so much for the great ideas 😊
I didn’t want to go down the prepared hamper idea as I wanted the snacks etc to be things I know she enjoys but doesn’t often have, also its more affordable and personal to make myself.
I don’t think she would be interested in a brewery tour tbh, she just likes drinking it 🍺

If you sign up to beer52 you get a box of 8 beers for £5.99.

Then just cancel the subscription. My dp got one and loved it.

BabySharkAteMyHamster · 16/12/2018 00:37

Tell a lie.

£2.95 at the mo. Either ways its good and dead simple to opt out.
