Sick note advice

I've been off work a few days.i plan to go to the doctors Monday. Will the sick note start once I've been off seven days or will they start it from the Monday?

I believe it will be dated from the date the doctor sees you.

You don’t need it to start until a week off. You can self certify for a week.

As PurpleDaisies said, not needed for the first 7 days. The end date is the important bit on a fit note - it will run from the date it's signed.

Thanks for responses, so the note would be started before I've been off 7 days ago if I go on Monday?

You wouldn’t need to go on Monday unless you are feeling unwell and need treatment, or if you need more time off.

I don't feel ready to go back to work next week so feel I need more time off.

They’ll just start it from Monday then until a week from then (or however long they think you need).

User It will depend on the nature of the illness and your individual doctor. E.g. when I had major surgery I was immediately issued a sick note for 6 weeks, as that was the minimum recovery time.

When I had a bad chest infection, I was advised to contact the doctor again if it was no better after the 7 days elapsed and I needed a note for work.

Some doctors hand out sick notes very readily, others see them as a last resort.

When does your self cert week run out? Can you get a GP appointment for the day before it runs out?

For the first 7 days you self certify.
