I've just read it to my ds 4 for the first time,I really didn't rate it tbh.I know Beatrix Potter books are classics but I didn't find the story warm or engaging,ds didn't either.Am I missing something?

Nope you're not. I don't enjoy reading them either. MIL bought the whole collection when DD was born.
That said, once you start to understand the humour they do get a bit better. And I think the film is amazing Grin

My DDs all love them. I really dislike reading them too! Find them very dry.

I love them but they are dark

My grandparents bought them for my oldest and dear Lord they were boring to read. They might have got taken to a charity shop 😬

I love the illustrations, but don't enjoy the stories at all.

I find them hard to read but my 3 year old loves them and I remember asking my mum to read them constantly when I was little. Not Peter Rabbit so much but Mrs Tittlemouse, Roly Poly Pudding and Jemima Puddleduck. We've got some DVDs of the animated ones that look like the illustrations and he loves those too. Some of them are very dark though.
