Hello! Regular mnetter here! I'm doing a project on museum shops and I wondered what the best thing is you have ever bought at a museum shop? Could be a pocket money toy or something amazing!! Thanks so much

I love locally made art/craft, but it has to be of an excellent quality, not tat. Ditchling gets this right, so does the teensy Gordon Russell Design Museum.

My favourite recent buy is very specific to this year though: it's this woman.

Can't remember where I got it but loved this when I saw it and at 38 I still have high hopes to learn the information on it https://www.historicroyalpalaces.com/kingsqueens-england-woodenruler.html?utmsource=googleeshopping&gclid=EAIaIQobChMItaXvwt6h3wIV0OF3Ch0VtQBfEAQYASABEgIaTfDBwE Grin

A fridge magnet of Anne Boleyn.

Viking 'chess' set from National Museum of Scotland in Edinburgh. But I honestly could have bought the whole shop. Stunning jewellery and tartan knitwear, bags etc, and not expensive either

@udnertheradar Does your research include art galleries?

I love a museum/gallery shop. My best ever buys were.
A Snake twist necklace from the Hayward Gallery shop. Available online, but that’s where I bought mine, which I love.
www.snaketwist.com
A T-shirt from the Aztec exhibition at the Royal Academy which is still going strong after 15 years although the colours are faded.
And mini microscope from the Natural History Museum which was the best present ever for a nature-mad six year old boy.
microscope

I knew you would have great answers!!! I love all those things.

Yes art galleries as well @ScreamingValenta.

The best thing I've ever bought was a Lowry picture cube from the eponymous art gallery. You can fold the blocks in different ways to display different pictures. I love it, and it always gets compliments.

I love Egyptology and cats, so my husband got me a Bastet cat from British Museum which I love. Also got me a beautiful watercolour scarf from a London museum, but not sure which one

DS is a rock hound so every time we go to Manchester Museum or MOSI he comes away with more. They're really reasonably priced so he can buy them with pocket money.

udnertheradar · 15/12/2018 14:44

@ScreamingValenta that sounds good. I have never seen one of those..

It must have been about 10 years ago I bought it, so no idea if they still exist. I think the design of folding cube is called an 'infinity cube'.
