I don’t know what this payment is

I checked my bank account this morning and there’s a payment in for £221 with the reference social sec - cas.
I wasn’t expecting anything and I can’t find what the reference means anywhere.
Ds1 has PIP which is paid in to my account, and I get Carers Allowance, but the reference for them is nothing like this, and neither of them are due today anyway.
Can anyone tell me what it could be? Ive tried googling without any success. If it’s a mistake obviously I’ll return it - but I need to know where it came from.
We’re in Scotland if that makes any difference.

Could it be cold weather payment or winter fuel allowance

Yes it’s carers allowance supplement. Scottish gov brought it in to make carers allowance the same amount as jobseekers. You’ll get in twice a year.

Oh right! I’m surprised because I wondered about that @Ekorre and @AppleJuiceFlood - I’ve already received one supplement in October, and the reference was different for that, and of course I haven’t had letter from DWP explaining anything!

The Oct one was for the first part of the year but it took so long to organise that it ended up getting delayed and delayed and so ‘catching up’ with the dec one.

I often find that DWP letters are sent out on the same day that money goes in (or out) of my benefits. So I spend the weekend puzzling over why my payment is different and then a letter arrives to explain it on Monday!
