How do you pronounciate it?

Lay - cruise - ay

Lay - cruciate (like the muscle)

Bad habits in this household :(

lur croooz ay (almost)

RockinRobinTweets · 14/12/2018 18:04

Luh crew-zay

RockinRobinTweets · 14/12/2018 18:05

Lay would be the pronunciation of les

Heuschrecke · 14/12/2018 18:08

I say Luh-crew-zay

I have a friend who pronounces it Luh-croy-zay

BendydickCuminsnatch · 14/12/2018 18:08

Luh cru-say

Sitranced · 14/12/2018 18:28

Le-orange-pots

MiddlingMum · 14/12/2018 18:30

Ours is called The Big Red Pot or The Red Baking Dish, but I guess I'd say Le Croo-zay if I had to.

SantyClaws · 14/12/2018 18:31

Staub

Redpriestandmozart · 14/12/2018 18:47

Long story but after our last dog had a cruciate injury somehow the Le Creuset pots evolved new names and after seeing an advert on telly today I realised how long we've been doing this!

The creu part is not pronounced crew but cruh (closest I can think of in English. It's the eu sounds from "deux" (2).

Luh-cruh-zeh

Heuschrecke · 14/12/2018 19:04

OK! I don't actually say Le CREW Zay! I try to use this pronunciation fairly closely translate.google.com/#view=home&op=translate&sl=fr&tl=en&text=creuset!

I still don't know why my friend uses CROY as the middle pronunciation though?!

TonTonMacoute · 14/12/2018 19:09

@SantyClaws

Smile I am a Staub convert, I must admit.

MetuaVahine · 14/12/2018 19:28

@Heuschrecke

Ah ok, i misunderstood.

At least, your friend is not pronouncing the t at the end Grin

Leggysy · 14/12/2018 19:38

Ler crew set.

But then again, I'm a tit Grin

PlainVanilla · 14/12/2018 20:46

Another Staub supporter here. I am told this is the choice of professional cooks.

PostmanBos · 14/12/2018 20:53

Yes lur crew-set is clearly the true English pronunciation

Heuschrecke · 15/12/2018 06:47

"At least, your friend is not pronouncing the t at the end"

She wouldn't do that. Actually she's extremely well educated, so why she chooses to pronounce, what is clearly, a French word so wrongly I have no idea Confused

MetuaVahine · 15/12/2018 12:36

@Heuschrecke You know, come to think of it, I do the same too sometimes. French is one of my native languages (though with a different accent than your regular French), and I never pronounce words like pain aux raisins or pain au chocolat the correct way when at the till Xmas Confused No idea why.
