Is Bristol airport easy to find in the dark?

Just received a text from a friend asking if I could pick her up from the airport tonight and I haven't driven there before.

I'm worried about taking a wrong turning in the dark and ending up hopelessly lost. I was taken there once a few years ago and seem to remember that once we came off the motorway it was country lanes all looking the same with trees and hedges. Google maps shows that's not really the case but it seems an awful long way away from the motorway.

Is it well signposted from Jnc 22, coming from the south, and then going back to it? Please put my mind to rest so I can reply and tell her yes.

Oh shit, just realised part of my panic is the last time I went to Bristol I missed a turning and ended up driving home down the back road instead of the motorway, in the dark, with a rather large, intimidating 4x4 with a million spot lights right behind me. Fuck me that was scary.

Can't say it makes me feel better or more confident now I know why I feel like this! Arrggghh.

It’s really easy. It’s just off the a38. You can’t really miss it.

Come off at J22 and follow the signs. And all the traffic. It's an A road, not a country lane.

Take m5 exit for clevedon, then take turning to yatton, go through village until you get to lights at congrebury then turn left towards Bristol at next set of lights at next cross roads turn right and go up, airport will then appear!

The good news is its not really Bristol, more A roads nearish Bristol. Its relatively easy to find but you are right, it is someway from the motorway.

It is really well signposted and it's off the A38. Do you have a satnav or Google maps on your phone that you can use? I always find it reassuring to have that on as a back up for directions in case I miss any signs.

BarbaraofSevillle · 14/12/2018 08:26

Finding the airport will be easy, but make sure you agree a place to meet and possibly get her to send you her location - you can definitely do this in Waze and probably in Google maps and other sat nav apps.

I don't know how big Bristol airport is, but there's always so many car parks, pick up points etc etc, that finding a person in a specific place could be a challenge, unless they tell you exactly where they are.

Bristol airport is tiny

Thanks all. No sat nav and ancient temperamental phone with no data plan.

From what you have all said it looks straightforward so have told her yes.

I think lunchtime will be spent doing the A road on street view. I'll write a few notes down and have more confidence.

Excellent idea to "walk it through" on Street View. I do that so at least I recognise some of the places I pass. We come from the south, leave M5 at Junction 22 then A 38 all the way and it is well signposted. Even my directionally challenged DH has no problem (well not with finding the airport anyway) Grin

The one time I got points on my driving license was trying to get off the A38 to Bristol Airport. It took me 3 tries and on the third I was 25 miles over the speed limit!
However that was 8(?) years ago and things have improved since then. But yes, the roads are unlit and bendy driving south until you’re back on the motorway. I usually tailgate someone or I’d be traveling at walking pace!
Time to buy/borrow a SATNAV or get an app, OP.

Sgtmajormummy · 14/12/2018 08:41

Sorry, cross post.

MrsMoastyToasty · 14/12/2018 08:49

It should only take about 30 minutes from the motorway. It's A38 all the way. Don't let other drivers intimidate you because there are plenty of speed cameras on that stretch of road.
