Itchy scalp

franklyshankly2 · 13/12/2018 22:54

I’ve had an itchy scalp for maybe over a year now. It’s not nits, it’s not dandruff. It’s starting to become embarrassing as I’ve clocked people clocking me absentmindedly scratching at work.

Does anyone have any ideas? I’m thinking I may need a GP appointment but would rather wait until the new year as it’s not urgent.

I’ve heard apple cider vinegar might help, anyone used that before? I still want to figure out WHY my scalp is itching though.

Sorry this is a totally boring/gross thread.

Polytar shampoo helps me.

TGel works for me

I second polytar. My hairdresser hates me for it but I used it once every six weeks before I get my roots done. I've tried Organic, chemical free, cider vinegar etc but polytar is the only thing that stops the itch.

Thank you!

Are they for a dry scalp?

You can buy shampoos for this at pharmacies, most are not prescribable any more as the NHS encourages people to buy them. Polytar or T-gel as recommended above or possibly Nizoral

EggsRoyale · 13/12/2018 23:04

As for why? I think mine is stress/hormone/season related. I've just accepted its something that just happens.

I’ve just looked up polytar, think I will pick a bottle up next time im in town. Thank you!

I have tried a few different shampoos which is why I was considering a GP appointment.

I am trying to figure out whether the weather is making the itch worse or not!

My son gets an itchy scalp if he has too much sugar. Drives him to distraction so he tries to avoid sugary stuff if he can.
