School £60 fine

stopitandtidyupp · 13/12/2018 17:05

Does anyone know if the absence period is one period or £60 per day.

My dd is going to USA tomorrow to see her ill Grandma. They have said this absence will be unauthorised.

Has anyone been fined or worse?

It depends on your local authority and school; I think. Here is £60 per session; and there's two sessions a day.

I think most places are £60 per day.

hidinginthenightgarden · 13/12/2018 17:12

Only after 5 days they start charging.

CormoranStrike · 13/12/2018 17:13

And for an ill grandma I would appeal, appral, appeal

Ours is £60 per incident, so the same whether you take a week or a fortnight

Villanellesproudmum · 13/12/2018 17:17

I thought it was £60 per parent per child per incident. Gov website says £60 max (unless fail to pay and it rises)

Skipuation · 13/12/2018 17:18

I would appeal if her attendance is otherwise good for sure.

Also the fine would be issued by local authority, not school. All they do is make threats.

She has had two says off with sickness.

He said it was in the interest of treating children fairly.

Ours is £60 per child per parent for each incident. So you get the same fine whether its 5 days or 3 weeks.

I'm always confused by these threads where various people have different fines, surely its meant to be the same throughout England.

mortifiedmama · 13/12/2018 17:38

Depends on your area. One i worked in was £60 per session, per parent so £240 per day! And was enforced.

It's set at £60 per child per parent, per incident. But an 'incident' is open to interpretation and for some authorities means per registration missed (so 2 a day for secondary school) and for others an incident is one period of absence regardless of duration.

EggysMom · 13/12/2018 17:42

Should be £60/incident per www.gov.uk/school-attendance-absence/legal-action-to-enforce-school-attendance

Of course schools don’t threaten parents. They follow government guidelines because if they don’t, and don’t show clearly what they’re doing to improve overall attendance, they can fail an Ofsted inspection and be placed in special measures.

YourEggnogIsBetterThanMine · 13/12/2018 17:47

Our school is £60 per parent for anything over 4 days.
