Well, everything to be honest.

Christmas tree becomes Yule log, mistletoe was picked by druids and holly was also picked as it complemented ivy and was burnt for Beltane as well as hung over doorways to ward off evil.

I agree with WTFIsA. It could be anything. Are there any other questions/answers that relate to plants connected with Christmas? If so, get all of those answers first and then the 'leftover' one is probably correct for this question, IYSWIM?!
